You shouldnt have to worry about buzzing. Not many 64s have it. Its the 60s you have to watch out for. As for motion, some of us used to have a motion hiccup that would make the screen studder while panning. It was a quick studder that you probably would see maybe once or twice a movie. I have this problem no more. All my movies render the way they should.

Just purchased the 60F8500 and cannot wait for it. I am coming from a history of LEDs and I just could not stand the motion rating and black levels. I come from being more of an audiophile than a videophile, but for the full experience the picture is definitely essential. I can't wait.

Yeah I'm not sure. Frys has 1 more 60 in and I'm on hold right now gonna try to exchange it.

I would think Frys would get more in stock. To my knowledge, no major retailer has run out of the sets where they cannot reorder.

They have a few 64s in stock too. Thinking i am going to exchange/upgrade as it seems like people have better luck with it.

I think that is a good idea since to get the full benefits of 1080i you need a large screen and/or sit quite close. For example, from 10 feet on a 50" set, you cannot tell 720p from 1080i. In fact, 720p may look better.

I am struggling with this set or one of these 4K sets.

ugh, the 65 curved Samsung 4K looks pretty good as I saw it in the store, PQ was pretty damn impressive.

but it's so hard to tell just from reading when I can't see them side by side.

anyone have any insight?

I don't care about anything but PQ, I use external audio and don't care about smart TV or 3D. Just want MAX PQ over blu-ray or Dish HD, amazon streaming, etc.

is Cleveland a authorized dealer for this? I sent a PM and got a price but forgot to ask.

I don't want to get this one now and then in year or two when the 4K content is out be disappointed. I have enjoyed my DLP so far but am in the market for a bigger better set.

Thanks guys for any insight you may have.

It's still early in the 4k cycle you need to know going in that most likely you'll need a new TV is a few years to take advantage of the full offerings of UHD. Since you are not looking at upgrading to 4k for the next 2-3 years why not get the f8500 and let the turmoil that is UHD simmer down and become more standard. The f8500 is one of the best 1080p sets available today. Being worried that you'll be disappointed in 2 years when 4k is here is trading all of that time from now until then without enjoying an excellent TV.

How about SyncPlus under app settings? I am pretty sure that's where I turned mine off at.

Plasma all the way. Natural Viewing, no computer artificial such as upscaling bla bla bla! My friend put on The Winter soldier on blu ray at 1080P and tried the up scaling, it looked terrible! The viewing angles, natural tones, black levels are so amazing!

Question

Apologize if similar issues have been posted. I've had this TV (51in) about 2 weeks. I have a weird issue where about 1-2 hours in of watching sat TV via DirecTV I slowly start to get color static. It starts very sporadically and then slowly builds to where it is near constant and then the picture starts to black out for 1-2 seconds. That slowly builds until the picture is constantly blacking in and out combined with color static. Sound is not impacted; just the picture. It specifically happened while watching HBO and also happened towards the end of watching a recorded program on my DTV HR34-700.

I have it connected to a Pioneer VSX-21TXH receiver that is a few years old. It's HDMI 1.3 if that matters. Hoping this is not a major tv issue. Maybe a bad HDMI cord tv or tv being HDMI 1.4 doesn't play well with HDMI 1.3 receiver or cable? Would that even matter? I'm out of date on my tv knowledge....

Can you return/exchange? If I TV I bought had that issue I'd return it right away. You never know if it's going to get worse.

You need to try a blu ray player to see if this same occurrence happens with that before you take it back. It could be a cable or your directv receiver.

Further developments....

I channel surfed for about 30 minutes tonight. Everything is fine. Watched latest episode of Walking Dead from DVR list. Fine. Switch over to HBO from the guide after finishing TWD and immediately get a No Signal message on screen for my HDMI1 port where it's plugged into.

Tests I conducted....
1. Switched out HDMI cable. Same error.
2. Played blu-ray. It works fine but sound only from TV speakers.
3. Samsung SmartHub function seems to work fine. I played Star Trek from the Netflix SmartHub albeit sound from TV speakers only.

I'm assuming either my receiver or my Genie has died and it's not the TV?

well it will be WAY longer than two years until I buy another one. I kept my DLP for 8 years now. So I guess I just don't want to lock myself into sub-par tech since the 4K are out now.

That said, i have read that this plasma set hangs with the new 4K ones but was just looking for some more thoughts.

thanks and is anyone else wants to chime in, I'd appreciate it.

if you do play 4K contect through this set at some point down the road, even though it is not I 4K set, I wonder if it would look better since the source would be better?

This set doesn't have HDCP 2.2 nor HDMI 2.0 so both of those would exclude it from playing most all upcoming 4k content (such as 4KBR). The days of holding on to TVs was of an era long past some people do, but they go in knowing they will be "stuck" with the current tech even if everything else around them is upgraded. "sub-par" is something that is a personal decision, many hear wouldn't consider the F8500 or great 1080p content "sub-par".

The choice you need to make (and really no one can make this but you) is if you want to jump temporarily into the 4K market and hopefully your TV works with the upcoming tech, OR get a 1080P set that will give you years of content, but you wont be able to take advantage of the 4K content coming out. The upgrade path currently is really an "unknown" I expect we'll have a better idea mid to late next year once the 4KBR specs come out and players\media get released. The F8500 can hang with almost every TV on the market and best them PQ wise, it just cant display 4K content nor will it ever be able to (as far as we know now) due to hardware limitations. Either way you go you may end up loosing something with the decision you make because of where we are at in the 4K "cycle". Many have made the decision to wait it out until OLED or the next great tech become affordable and more reliable and make the upgrade then.

thanks for the post, that was helpful.

I am leaning more and more of just getting this plasma now and worry about something else down the road a ways.

I have no experience with a high end plasma like this but am I wrong to think this will be a really noticeable difference than my older hlt-6176s? I guess one way to look at it is aI have tons of blu-rays and 1080P content is all over the place, so maybe it time to just enjoy that for a while on a really high end set like this one

this was/is their flagship plasma right? I have read tons a good things about it and it seems the PQ is hard to beat in the 1080 world, is that accurate?

thanks and I really appreciate the help guys

also, the room I will use this in varies from really light to dark at night. will that be a problem to calibrate so it looks good in both. So it's not nice and bright during the day and then blowing your eyes off at night?

I would prefer not to have to change the brightness back and forth.

any thoughts on that from someone who has this and not installed in a dark room all the time?

yes, this is easily done using the eco sensor. It drops the cell light setting based on room light to a user settable value and has minimal effect on other settings like white balance and colors. So for example you can have it run normally at 20 in a bright room and drop it to 12 automatically when it's dark.

They could release an EVO kit that has both of those and scales UHD content down to 1920x1080 4:4:4, but that seems unlikely.

Very unlikely IMO. You never know though stranger things have happened, I just don't see Samsung spending the money to add those features when they could upsell you to a new TV.
