I just pulled the trigger today on the PN60F8500 at my local Best Buy. They had an unbelievable price but unfortunately it's on backorder so I won't take delivery until November 29.

My current display is a Panasonic TC-P50GT30 that will be going in my bedroom. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to own the last flagship plasma. It should hold me over a few years until OLED technology is matured.

I'll post my first impressions after I take delivery and break-in my display.

where are you? guy at one of my local BBs wouldn't budge a dime; so, I walked out resigned to the fact that i'll probably end up w/ a LCD of some sort or i'll buy a used panel sometime down the line.

this is what I have going on. My Panny had a buzz too but I never heard it from the couch. This one I can hear and oddly it gets louder when the picture goes dark. Phone won't pick it up in the room so I put it behind the panel to record the buzzing. If I only heard it when I'd stick my head behind the TV, I'd be happy!

I'm not sure if this falls within "normal" spec and I'm just picky or if I should go for an exchange now while they're still around. The picture is fantastic, no dead pixels or anything.

nice, the guy at one of my local BBs wouldn't budge a dime from the listed sales price; so, I walked out resigned to the fact that i'll either end up w/ a LCD or that i'll buy a used panel down the line.

Been trying some of the ultra hd demo stuff on YouTube, all I can say is wow.

And yes I know it's not a 4k set, but the higher quality source stuff still looks better on this set than the lower quality stuff

Blown away by this set

Just got my set today, wondering if there is an easy way to turn off the overscan. I googled and couldn't find an easy answer.

Hi all.

Regarding the "smart hub just got better" notification message ... I called Samsung today. They are aware of the Smart Hub message and have basically said there is nothing we can do about it. It's in essence a Samsung marketing advertisement that will be gone "soon".

How do you check the hours on the set? Got home from BB yesterday with my new 8500 only to find out that the TV had been used. Not very happy.

With the 'classic' remote press 'mute 7 3 7 enter'. MRT shows hours. I've seen NIB having as many as twelve when first unpacked. Turn the set off to exit menu.

Yeah...not new. Display unit for a couple of months? Seems like too many hours for a customer return. You'd have to be running it 24x7 during the return period.

Talking

Paid full price for new unit. I probably will return and pick up my self. That will give me an opportunity to speak to a manager in person and let them know I expect a discount or product for my grief.

Is wall mounting a popular choice for the PN60F8500. I would like to wall mount though samsung recommends 4" behind the set for ventilation.

My 51 is on a low profile mount and runs very cool after calibration. Same menu that shows hours shows panel temp. I've never seen higher than 45 ish in a torch mode. Not sure how high would be too high. Currently never gets higher than the low to mid 30s.

Hey guys, I have the 60" F8500 in my cart right now, but I want to make absolutely sure I won't have some regrets as I replace my Mitsubishi Diamond 65" DLP, 65835. I have had the DLP chip replaced due to the stuck mirror issue so it is "good to go" for quite a while, but I have the itch to upgrade and from my research this may be my last chance to get into a top end Plasma at a good price before we have several years of unchallenged, mediocre LCD market dominance.

Can you think of any area where my DLP is superior to the F8500? All the things I can think of:

-A bit less power usage (220w vs maybe 300w)
-Screen will last pretty much forever as long as you replace the bulb
-Film-like image (how film-like is the plasma in comparison?)
-Costs me nothing to keep it

Pretty much everything else I think goes to the plasma.

Your comments could either cause me to empty my cart or pull the trigger. And no, the 64" is too expensive. Thanks guys

I recently upgraded a 60" LCD to a 64" F8500 and appreciate the additional 17% of screen.

I own the 64" F8500 and used to own the same DLP model you have. The F8500 is even more film-like than the DLP. From a picture standpoint I can't think of anything I like better with the DLP.

I am upgrading from a 50"DLP to the PN60F8500. The Dlp was in need of a new bulb so I talked the wife into getting a TV we can hang on the wall. We both agree that the larger size and much better picture are awesome. Soon these plasma TV sets will be extinct.

I posted about this a couple of days ago. I have mine set to auto and it really does a nice job of cleaning up the picture without sacrificing detail.

Cool, I'll give it a try, I was thinking everything had to be off But I am not experimenting with a few of these type of settings

I usually shut all that stuff off myself but I thought the F8500 showed a little more grain then my VT60 and this option seemed to clean it up.

I have another unit coming to replace the one I received last week that has the constant buzz that gets louder when the screen is black. Hopefully this one will be perfect.

How's your F8500 coming along? Any chance you're missing the VT60 yet?
