Good points. I may get BB to move the delivery up to the Monday after Thanksgiving (two weeks) since we''ll be gone before then. That should give me enough time to swap it out if necessary. I hate doing "early" Christmas gifts for the family – especially when they're really for me! – but...

How did you get BB to honor the Movers coupon. I thought it specifically excluded Samsung TVs?

Hi All,

I just received my brand new 51. Super happy with it and no problems except minimal buzzing from the back. I am having a problem with the standard remote though which I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out with. The smart remote controls my cable box no problem but the standard remote doesn't. Does it need to be paired? If so, how? Or do I need to set up the IR extender device? It just seems strange that one of the supplied remotes works and the other doesn't. I would simply get used to using the smart remote but it doesn't see to have power on off for the cable box (Time Warner) or be able to access the cable boxes DVR. Phew. I'm sorry if this is a total newb question. I spent an hour searching the forum with no luck.

Is there a way to adjust the picture size while streaming movies from Amazon ? I start a hd movie and the black bars are on the top and bottom. I try to select picture size from the tv menu but it won't let you do anything.

I just want to zoom out of the black bars while this thing is breaking in

Or does watching a 3 hour movie with black bars not matter for ir burn in?

Anyone know if the US version of these TV's use a Power Factor Correction power supply ?? I believe they do in EU (due to energy regs over there), but not sure they do that here. Need to upgrade my UPS (this bad boy pulls 650W @ start-up !!!!) & was wondering if I can use just a standard one (simulated sine wave) or if I need to pop for a (much more expensive) pure sine wave unit.

Official Samsung PNxxF8500 Owners Thread (No Street Price Talk)

^ I'm pretty sure over 99% of the F8500 owners don't have a UPS connected to their tv's. Why do you feel the need to have your tv on a UPS? I think a surge suppressor is recommended, but a UPS is overkill. A UPS is great for maintaining the integrity of critical/static data/memory on a computer/server, so it has its function in the electronics market. I just can't see the need for it on a tv.

It's called insurance against possible On/Off scenarios that pops any weak capacitors when the unit is hot.
If you blew a couple thousand on buying a premium TV, then $79 for an APC 750VA UPS is a piddling amount to insure that there will be no down time, or blown TV!
UPSs on every one of my systems in my household!

I think that more than 1% of Members have some kind of protection:

Yes, I'd say over 95% of electronics owners have "some" kind of protection, but I still say under 1% own a battery backed up uninterruptible power supply for a tv.

Does anyone else have to turn off the 3D -> 2D option every time they play a 3D blu-ray? I don't understand why having that feature "on" would be the default.

The F8500s seem to be completely gone from Amazon and Best Buy. Still appears on the BB site, but I couldn't get an order to complete yesterday. Not in stock at any of the BB stores and not available to ship. Is this finally it?

I did find it at B&H, and my order for a 51" (to complement the 64" I got in the spring) seems to have gone through. We will see.

I simply asked if they'd take 10% off if I came and bought it. Mover's coupon won't scan but they manually over rode.

couple questions, if anyone might happen to know. does this tv have native, built in bluetooth connection, that would allow bluetooth headphones etc? Or if not, does this tv have dolby digital via tos, and/or an option in the tv menu to switch to PCM instead? If it does not have native bluetooth connection, then I would be forced to buy one of these Bluetooth transmitter with optical input? but last I checked they only support PCM, not DD.

Additionally, how is the gaming on this tv? I remember reading a couple years back that samsung lagged behind panasonic plasmas in gaming lag. Is this still true?
I am considering buying one of these but have been a panasonic fan. My current model is a Panasonic GT25

I purchased the 51F8500 online at BB on November 4 with a confirmed delivery of November 19. Received voicemails from corporate and a local BB store today telling me too bad, TV still not in stock and is "backordered". No ETA! Meanwhile, I notice the price has dropped again.

Hey amped, did they tell you they would get more in at some point. I was gonna get a 60 but of course they were out. If they were to get more in fairly soon I'd wait for one

I ordered the 51F8500 from Amazon on the 13th - should be here tomorrow. I saw the price drop today and Amazon is refunding the difference.

Corporate told me to talk to the local store, but the local store seemed clueless. I'll have some time to raise hell tomorrow. This is the only TV I'm considering since I gave up on finding an affordable and low mileage Panny ST60 or VT60.

Hope everything works out for you! I've got the 51 inch and love it. Wanted to go bigger and get the 60 inch version but I was a little too late I guess.

There are still some new 51 inch models left in my area, but it looks like the 60's are completely out. The only option if I want the 60 is a floor model. Would purchasing a used plasma like this be a bad idea? What would be the things to look out for if I was going to do this?

NO F8500s listed for Black Friday

Will be interesting if any Members get a Made in December 2014 on their sets?

Pretty sure it's the end of the line especially since BB pulled the TV off their site. I think some retailers are getting their last allotments this week so if anybody wants one they should do it NOW.
I purchased the 60" but it won't be delivered until November 29.

That really sucks man. I haven't been contacted yet but now I'm worried about my order. Best Buy needs to figure this out because I'm not considering any other set right now since this is the last flagship plasma.

I foolishly waited too late to buy the 51" and had to get it new through Beach Camera on Amazon. Beach Camera is a very reputable Samsung authorized seller but they do not have a price guarantee so I was stuck paying the old $1,200 price. I don't think the $200 is worth worrying over considering how hard these sets are to come by the last few days. I have the F8000 (superb LED set) and having never owned a plasma or seen one in ideal dark room conditions, the hype is quite high for me. I'm sure the F8500 will not disappoint!

Don't feel too bad. I wasn't willing to wait it out and paid $1300 for my 51 about 5-6 weeks ago.

Kinda OT. Does anyone know where I can order two of the black plastic clips that go in the box to hold the top on? I plan to move and am keeping the box but the delivery guys must have taken two of them as trash.

Can anyone compare how glossy (i.e. glare) the screen of the F8500 is to the LG 55EA9800 OLED tv? I recently purchased the OLED but the glare is just too much in room. Not only does it reflect sunlight but it reflects a lamp in my room such that it will necessitate a return.

Also, is it an absolute no-no to transport this tv laying flat in the back of an SUV?

Ordered my 51" from Value Electronics yesterday. Supposed to ship later this week.

Robert was very helpful.

What are your guys' opinion on the Evolution Kit for this set? Is the motion remote and faster processor worth the money? We do a lot of Netflix and HULU watching, some OTA and rarely watch a downloaded movie or program from a connected Mac Mini. Will the added features of the evo kit enhance my experience based on those watching habits?

The F8500 is better for sure, but nothing is like an old matte screen display. Check out my post here: Forget 4K-All I want is 1080P with no glare

I received a defective 60F8500 from Best Buy, a replacement was ordered and scheduled to be delivered on Saturday. Just called and found out that it's 'backordered' and they aren't getting anymore in. Anyone else able to find one for order somewhere?

We have VERY dirty power here, tons of brownouts, spikes & rapid on/off events that hit without warning. The AVR afforded by a UPS smooths out the dirty power issues & keep the set stable during the on/off events. I use surge suppressors for the cheaper bits, but for the expensive gear I use the UPS's.

Exactly, it's relatively inexpensive insurance if you have crappy power ! Can't use a 750VA for these TV's tho. I was using my 800VA (450W) from my old JVC IDLA for the F8500, but these bad boys pull 650W on start-up & it ate the battery in 3 weeks. Just ordered a 1325AV (810W) unit for the TV, still cheap ins. @ $120.
