3D kind of working now

So I pressed that button and noticed it takes a few tries to get it to sync with the TV and work in 3D. Was able to stream 3D content from the Explore 3D App but my HTPC I built just cant be sure its working. I'm using PowerDVD 14 to play the 3D bluray Gaurdians of the Galaxy and press the 3D button on the TV. Its says 2D->3D which is confusing. PowerDVD has its own 3D button but that produces red and blue casts. Not sure if its even possible to play 3D content from a PC to a TV like the Samsung Plasma Panel?

Thanks.

You are using the wrong 3D mode. 2D->3D is to make a regular 2D movie look 3D. It doesn't work well, imho, but that's what it is for. You need to choose one of the other modes for viewing a true 3D movie, like your copy of GOTG.

Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Denon AVR-4520ci / OPPO BDP-103D
DTV HR24-100 / Apple TV (gen3) / Roku Stick / HTPC / Panamax M5400-PM
Rythmik FV15HP's (2) / Klipsch RF-82 ii (L&R) / RC-62 ii (C) / RB-51 ii (FH) / RS-52 ii (SS) / RB-41 ii (SB)

I think I understand why this is not working well from my HTPC running a G3258 Pentium haswell cpu. The thing is i read you need support for Intru 3D by intel HD graphics and the G3258 doesnt have that built in. So I have two choices use a discrete video card, or just buy a 3d bluray player. I have an old GTS 450. Might test it out tomorrow. Good thing is its low power.

Thanks.

Finished a week of watching 3D movies on the 64F8500.

Byfar the best 3D viewing experience I have encountered. Really impressed. The F8500 has blacker letterbox bars in 3D mode than the ZT60 as well. Didnt expect to notice this!

The ZT60 can't hold a candle to the F8500 as far as 3D is concerned.

Black levels are very impressive.

if the best 3D out there comes from the f8500, i'm never going to watch 3D again, haha.

honestly, i'm not sure how/why you guys bother. all the 3D i've seen looked terrible(picture quality wise) compared to watching in 2D. it really would be nice if they could present 3D 'perfectly', meaning if you closed one eye you couldn't tell it apart from the 2D version.

I would suggest never watching 3D again.

It seems you don't have the interest in it.

I own over 130 3D Blu-rays. Review them for a living on a website.

Have now owned 3 plasma displays with 3D capability. The LG 950, the Panasonic ZT60 and the Samsung F8500

As others have indicated here, the F8500 does an exceptional job with 3D. My opinion is it's the best out of the three I mentioned above.

If you can't see it, I offer no insults, but suggest that perhaps 3D is not your thing.

Anyone think any more 60" will turn up? I was seeing a lot of activity on the 51's, but nothing really on the 60's.

I agree 100%. The 3D is excellent on the 64F8500. The first thing I noticed is the brightness of the picture.

No need for an update. Use Game Mode and/or rename the input you're using for gaming "PC" and lag should be around 40ms, which is about a good as one expects in a display not specifically designed for gamers. Even 70ms shouldn't be terrible unless you're playing twitchy PvP games.

It happens to me intermittently. Doesn't matter what I watch in Netflix . I don't watch any of the other apps very often.

Does it reflect light easily? Is it... Sexual?

3D is great on the 64F8500 and very bright.

I didn't use the 3d on my dlp much due to lack of brightness....it was too dark to even enjoy it. Felt like I was always straining my eyes.

This f8500 plasma is fantastic for 3d and find myself watching all my 3d movies again .

Enjoyed the hobbit movies in 3d . Pacific rim and Transformers looked pretty good for conversions. I think they are called hybrid conversions.

http://www.realorfake3d.com/

You can't beat 3d on the f8500 plasma due to how bright it is.

I have the Panasonic BDT210 Blu Ray Player and it's still working like a charm.

Was thinking about replacing it and decided against it being I never had a problem with it.

At end of movie just hit the smart hub button and it will ask you if you want to exit or not ..say yes.

Just make sure you were watching TV before activating Netflix. I always activate netflix from the netflix button.

It should go right back to the TV channel you were watching before starting up netflix.

I couldnt let the opportunity pass. I waited long enough before finally giving in and realizing these displays arent coming back. Plus, my daughter keeps stealing mine to play her PS3 games and my son uses the living room for his cartoons. I need my sanctuary back.

Anyone here like the smart remote ?

I love it..once you figure out how to use it.... it's great and fits in hand very nice. I don't like the regular remote at all. Don't even like the feel of the buttons.

I like it so much and I haven't use my harmony one (original ) for the TV.

I like it overall. I also have the 2014 version of the smart remote (for my HU8550) and like that one even better but both are really fun to use. There is a button or two I wish was on both of my Smart remotes but there are work arounds. In an ideal world, Samsung would design the Smart remote with 2 unlabeled buttons that you could assign a function to such as "info" or "tools".

I let my costco membership expire over a year ago.

I have to buy a ST warranty for my best buy TV.

Do I have to be a member of costco again in order to buy a ST warranty ?

Well, after doing a bunch of digging on Google I found that the F8500 has bluetooth built in but it only allows you to use the blue tooth for "Samsung Soundshare devices" only. Proprietary products by Samsung and no headphones available. Thus, you can't use blue tooth headphones with the F8500. Contrast that with my 2014 HU8550 and that does have the option to use any bluetooth headphones with it and it works great. Maybe the 2015 Evolution kit will give us that option for the F8500?

I was thinking the same thing about having 1 or 2 unassigned buttons, then it would really rock. Other than that I really like the smart remote . Plus it's nice and sleek.

Using the e manual via the onscreen keyboard is nice. It guesses the next letter (4 of them ) when searching the e-manual via the TV.

You start off with first letter and rarely have to move the cursor ever again.

Comes in very handy instead of having to move the cursor all over the keyboard.

Everyone manufacturer should have this feature..it's great !

Try it if you haven't already.

I had an issue with Netflix yesterday while watching a 3D title all of a sudden the screen went black and had to pull the plug from the wall to get the tv to turn on again. Weird.

How's your internet speed ...watching 3d it needs to be up there .

It has happened to me but I never had to pull plug. I forgot what button I hit
to get out of there and just reloaded netflix.

The F8500 is only superior in 3D over the ZT60 because of the brightness factor and from what I can deduce, the letterbox bars are noticeably darker or blacker. Everything else is similar and/or reference quality.

For some reason, the ZT60 has worse and noticeably brighter black levels and letterbox bars in 3D.

I don't know what you watched but it doesn't reflect what I experienced. I watched the Croods 3D and Dredd 3D and it was such an improvement over the ZT60 I ended up sitting through both films.

The brightness factor on the F8500 makes a huge leap in picture enjoyment over the ZT60. Im a big fan now. The Croods was great in 3D. Dredd 3D was a huge treat. There are moments in the film that really benefited from 3D such as the illusion of inhaling of the drug "Slo Mo"

My internet speed is pretty good. Steam downloads range from 2.5-3.5M/sec. Never noticed issues unless I was again downloading steam games, but the power button was useless on the remote. Only cure was to unplug.
