smarthub apps lock out the optimizer on auto, so if you want to calibrate with an hdmi source you can transfer over the settings obtained with it set to auto.

I don't think it's necessary to use the pixel shifter unless you do long LUT measurements.

Black optimizer will work with the apps if you reset your tv and dont re-enable day/night cal modes.

Someone else posted this awhile back. I tried it and sure enough it worked. However, I can't say it will work with the latest FW as I am still on an older version.

I have never activated the day/night modes on my 8500, and the black optimizer setting when I'm watching Netflix in the Smarthub is grayed out on "auto"...not selectable.

You don't sacrifice anything using auto mode so no worries.

That's bizarre because it worked the time I tried it. Perhaps it was a fluke. I always do a reset after a FW upgrade. I wonder if you have to first enable day/night and then after you do a reset and do not re-enable day/night it allows you to use set BO. I re-enabled day/night and the BO was greyed out again.

Was BO greyed out on "auto"? I have never manually reset my 8500.
