I found a trick for darker blacks. The Black Optimizer visibly drop s black levels. Cant tell much differences between the 3 settings though. I have mine set to Dark Room.

I don't have any lines from letterbox, but I have developed some channel logo images. I bought a Geek Squad protection plan, and from what I can tell, it covers burn-in. I've been looking at possible replacements, but every one has some kind of flaw (as did this tv, obviously).

Have you guys tried running the built in scrolling IR repair feature? I used to get IR from letterbox and channel watermarks on my old B530, however it always cleared up with use. Stubborn IR came out with a few hours of the scrolling screen. I've never seen any IR on my F8500.

To each their own but I could never go back down to the image quality offer by budget or mid-range LCD's, even the current flagship 4K LCD's are blown out of the water by the F8500. If you care about PQ the only viable replacement for plasma is OLED and that tech is still very much "high end" right now, even if it is dropping in price.

I am sick. Brand new panel was delivered. When the repairman opened the box someone had removed the Y Main board. He had to install it and use the missing board but no luck.

Really bummed. I have to call and say it's not working again and go from there. Really really down about this.

Agreed...the only reason I myself bought an oled was simply because of the blacks, and boy they give a new meaning to black...however hands down the best pic your going to get other than oled is plasma...its funny cause I have my f8500 in the living room and get asked wow where did you get that 4k.

I've been running the scrolling periodically the last few days, since I noticed the logo images. It hasn't removed them yet, but I'll continue trying. If it can't, I'll probably get an OLED. I can't live with SOE and bad off-angle viewing, and I've yet to see any LCDs that don't have both to some extent.

That really sucks that the scrolling hasn't repaired it for you, the scrolling always fixed the minor IR my old B530 used to get. How long do you run it at a time? Maybe leave it running overnight? I agree on the OLED, my Y-sustain board is starting to intermittently flake out and an OLED replacement is just not in the budget yet given that LG's 65" OLED is about $7500 locally Will have probably have to look at finding a replacement y-sustain or using one of the repair services to keep this TV going for a few more years yet.

Some time ago a poster provided the name of a company in Philadelphia that apparently provided a satisfactory repair of a 8500 board. Will try to dig it up and repost. Understand the logistics issue for you. No affiliation, etc..

Thanks! Pretty sure I've found this guy on eBay as well. There are 2 y-sustain repair services listed on eBay right now: one in Philly that charges $258 and one in North Hollywood that charges $350.

Sounds like a good price for the 65EF9500 but I'll pass. Those screen uniformity and CMS problems would have me replacing it once the honeymoon was over.

I've been thinking about our post and it occurs to me that the B6s are probably about to ship at a fairly competitive price. That's probably why the 9500s have dropped to clear them out before the B6s are out.

Any news on your repair? Samsung techs over here were supposed to receive a panel for me on the 10th as well. As of now, nobody knows where this panel is or if it has been shipped nor when it will arrive. Totally sucks of Samsung to sell us this TV and cut off the supply of repair parts fully knowing their product has manufacturing defects. I hope they get sued.

Cleveland Plasma is selling the EF9500's for a great price. I almost pulled the trigger on one but due to the greyscale issues, I went with the Sony XBR-75x940c. I will either be retiring my 64F8500 to the master bedroom, or putting it up for sale. Just sold my 65VT30.

true...but I think the 2016s are going to about $1500-2000 more than the discontinued 2015 models are

I think I am going to wait it out for about another year
65" works for my needs...but the lack of 4K programming makes me in no rush unless I see a firesale

I bought a Sony 65X850 last year for $799. I thought that was a firesale and so I snagged it
I upgraded my Direct Tv service to the 4K capable and the lack of programming has me in no rush to buy another 4K TV

I run the scrolling about 3-5 hours a day. It's probably run a total of about 20 hours. I'll try it a bit longer, but one reason I got the protection plan was because I was concerned about burn-in. I didn't "abuse" the set by any means, but I didn't baby it, either. Honestly, I only see the logo and banner against light backgrounds. Still, if I can't get rid of the IR, I'll use the plan.

Tonight I was watching Netflix on my 60F8500 and there suddenly was a loud spark and flash in the back of the TV and the picture went out. The red standby LED was on, so I tried the power on button on the remote and I saw/heard the same loud flash again, so I unplugged the power cord to the TV for now. I am hoping that this is just the power supply, and that no damage has been done to the display itself. Any ideas? Has anyone experienced this? This TV has been performing flawlessly - it is a late 2013 model.

I've had a surge protector fry before (a monster one) and it made a loud popping sound, and then a horrible smell to follow. Luckily, none of the electronics on it were affected. Have you taken a look at the power strip yet? It will be obvious if that was the cause. Hopefully your set wasn't hurt.

For some reason I find the pixel flipper on mine to work better in this regard than the scrolling...I tend to run it at night for a few hours and seems to help, except for the when it comes to the letterbox bars for some reason that's harder to eliminate.

just asking, are you sure that "letterbox bar" was not on your panel from first day and you only noticed later?

I have a pinkish bar in bottom of screen, did not see in the very first days, i was afraid to have damaged my screen watching movies and PC content in the first days, but later I've seen the size of the bar is not exactly the 2,35:1 so it could not have been movies. I suspect it's AR coating defect. You will not correct it in a million hours of slides, if i'm right.
