Thanks for the link. What did you set the panel light with these settings?

I personally wasn't a fan of those settings. To my eyes, the picture was lifeless and the colors seemed off.

That's not surprising at all.
Variances from set to set, and different room lighting makes sharing settings pretty fruitless usually.
You'd be better off using a good calibration disk like Spears & Munsil HD Benchmark, or the forum's own AVS HD 709.

Good luck,
CFC

Colors are a lot like sound and everyone sees and hears things differently. Many discussions about speakers completely contradict each other. My thoughts are I am going to do the break in suggestions for the tv and try out those settings and see how I feel about them. I will then tweak them from there. I did that with my speakers and honestly did not have to change the much except I have some loss of hearing in my left ear so I raised the level on that side to compensate. I have really enjoyed this thread and all the thoughts offered.

I've looked at the Spears & Munsil disc. I may get it at some point. I am pretty happy where the picture currently is, so I'm undecided. Thanks!

After what seemed forever my new LG arrived yesterday. I have to admit that out of the box I was a little disapointed with the picture. I had a 50 Inch Samsung plasma and really loved the picture and when I first hooked up the LG the color looked a little light and was not a deep or rich as the color I was used to. I took the pointers in the thread and setup the Tv and began the breakin procedures recommended in this thread. This morning I used the calibration settings from here and the color and overall picuture looks very good. I absolutely love all the features of this TV and I think this breakin slides are going to help get me the picture I like. I have learned that calibration of the picture makes a tremendous difference and that is something I did not know until this thread was started. My advice to anyone who purcahses this set is to not get to excited if the picture is not what you were looking for at first. This can be fixed with the settings and features the LG offers. Also this is truly the 1st smart tv I have had and I really like how all this works and I have a lot of things to tinker with in the settings. The price and quality of this Tv can not be beat if you can find the deals listed here. A lot of good information is shared in this thread and if you buy this tv you should read it all to get the most out of Tv.

Frys has this one discounted again at $699. Only $100 more than the Black Friday price.

Ok so my girlfriend had the TV on the Food network channel and forgot to turn the TV off. Now there is the food network logo on the bottom right side of the screen it's not too bad but you can see it when there is a light color on the screen white/grays. I ran the IR color wash for about 3 hours and went thru Avatar once. It's still there any other suggestions? Do you think it will go away on its own eventually?

My 2 cents -- I wouldn't sweat it. Remember there's a difference between image retention and image burn. Your case sounds like the former. Just curious, how long has it been since she watched? You might find this reassuring:

Hello everyone! I have read every post in this thread, twice actually and just want to say thanks for everyone who has contributed and posted their findings! I just bought this set from Fry's yesterday but haven't had the chance to set it up yet. I actually live 300+ miles away from the Fry's location I purchased it from. I happened to be in the DFW area and decided to check it out after following this thread for a while now. And I ultimately ended up leaving with it! I have to say, it was a nervous 5 hour drive. I've inspected the panel and don't see any visible cracks so the moment of truth will be when I plug it in and turn it on.

@Derbyman32, now that you've had a few days with the set, what are your impressions?

I just picked this TV up a couple days ago for the Fry's deal. I actually registered for this forum after reading the thread about this TV. I'm looking forward towards figuring out how to handle the initial prevention of burn-in, and reading some of the other content on the forums.

For those that are still having lag issues playing games, I'd recommend playing around with your HDMI inputs. I put HDMI1 on PC and HDMI2 on DishNetwork and then moved my Xbox to the HDMI2 for Dishnet and put my dishnet box on HDMI1. For some strange reason that cleared up the lag I was experiencing playing online. This thing is rock solid now. I love it. I have another LED LG 3D set and the picture can't come close to this box. The smart apps on this one got updated and has more than the LED set too.

Agree mac4lyfe.  I have a HTPC connected, and it works BEST using the PC HDMI  connection.  When using ARC (HDMI 1), I sometimes need to restart the Receiver and TV to get the screen to show.  Not a problem with PC HDMI.

Finally got the TV out of the box and setup today!

My first impressions are, wow, what a steal. Blurays look amazing! I'm really loving this thing so far! I'm still tweaking the display, trying to get it to my liking. I'm sure I'll get the perfect settings for me soon.

On a side note, I tried streaming Netflix through our PS3(I haven't tries the native Netflix app yet) and the picture doesn't look as good as it should. It looks more SD than HD. Does anyone have any ideas? Am I missing a setting somewhere? I'll try the native app tomorrow to see if it looks any better, I'm too tired to check now after setting it up and tweaking with the settings for several hours tongue.gif

That's good to know! Thanks! I won't freak out then. As long as one of my Netflix apps looks good that's all I care about lol. I'll have to test the roku too. Thanks for the reply! And thanks everyone else for the warm welcome smile.gif

The Netflix and Amazon apps look great on this set. My network is all wired with 100 mb/s internet download speeds.

Roku 3 looks fantastic as well.

Welcome! Not to worry...ser the brightness in the set up screen ..to 50 ...and burn away for 100 hrs...It can be interrupted.
Then..do as follows...
Directions:
Put in BR and enjoy the hell out of it, and know you saved $2k in not getting a Panny when you didn't have to. smile.gif

Hi everyone. I picked this TV up over the weekend at MC for $699 and couldn't be happier. Just a quick question for the experts out there. I'm running the slides for the burn in period and noticed that there are some dark marks on the screen as seen in this picture. I don't notice it when watching TV but just wanted to make sure it's nothing to worry about while I can still return it.
Thanks!

I haven't done burn-in on a plasma before, and was running it on this TV. I set the panel light to 50, brightness to 50, and contrast to 45. Are these appropriate levels for burn-in? After the 100 hours are up can I increase them? Do I need to continue doing the same screen savers after that 100 hours?

Does the TV pass through 5.1 audio? I'm waiting for my vizio s4251w-b4 sound bar and I've read through the entire thread saw someone has the same setup but didn't give a definitive answer.
Thanks!

Thanks. Not the answer I was hoping for since the Vizio doesn't have and hdmi input but I'll make due with the optical cable.
