I know the 60" model of the F5500 uses pentile pixels, but what about the 64" version?

Only the 60" versions of the F5300-F5500 series use the pentile layout. The 51" and 64" use the RGB.

OK great. I have the 64" version and its amazing. Compared to my 50" and 60" U50 plasmas it is brighter and more dimensional, but the U50's have deeper blacks. One thing that I am noticing is that when turning it on from a cold start it crackles while warming up, as if metal was expanding. Is this normal? My other plasmas dont do this.

I've got the 60" F5300..I haven't noticed that at start up, but will check when I get home. Mine puts out a great picture too! The whole pentile/non-pentile thing is overblown, I have the Samsung 43" Plasma in the bedroom (RGB) and the picture quality is outstanding as well. The only time the pentile is even noticed is when I'm about 6 inches from the screen, which I never watch anything that close anyway. I think Samsung put out a great price/performance product with the entire F5300/5500 series..enjoy!
