Hi everybody. My experiance with VT60. the TV itself is a good looking set. And I asked the salesman what the best TV is right now and he took me to this model. I bought it !! It took about a week to detect my first problem. It was during the hockey playoffs when I started noticing when the action was on the rink the picture would flicker about every 10 seconds or so. I thought it was a "flicker" but what is was doing was for a split second automatically readjusting the brightness. Then it would taper off and again do the same thing. This was happening the whole game. And it contnued to do this every game I watched. The Panasonic techs are supposedly working on a fix for this.

What kind of service are you uing to get signal to T.V. Fios, cable etc. Sometimes the box can cause an issue. Do you have a DVD on a seperat input? Try the DVD. Or is it going through a receiver that does switching. Try bypassing the receiver.

Thanks for the reply. It's ATT uverse. Fiber opp's. I called them on this. They ran every test and concluded there's nothing within their service that could cause this picture to constantly refresh the brightness.

Are you sure it wasn't the flash from cameras in the arena (people taking photos) ? I noticed similar behavior on a number of different plasma displays including mine. When going into the guide from my sat receiver, I could see the flash\flicker behavior in the preview window at the top right corner.

My friend had fiber and he had a problem with flicker on his new Samsung LED. They swore it was not them. It was doing it for about 2 months. Then on day they updated their system and his flicker is gone that was 3 months ago.

Isn't flashing/popping during hockey a known issue for quite a few plasma's currently on the market?

Your right. There is a lot of flashing going on. But not to the point where you see the picture brighten then sligtly dull out then brighten again. Try watching a game for 3 hours and see this go on every 10 seconds or so. If this is the way plasmas work then why have one?

Hi Michael

Are you seeing these changes in brightness on anything else?

If not, then it's probably flash photography.

Search this forum for the term Hockey Flash or Hockey Flashes. There was a lot of discussion about it a while back - several of us checked Hockey broadcasts on our other TVs (various LCDs, LEDs, and Rear Projection TVs etc) and we saw the same effect on all of them to varying degrees. It's something about those broadcasts that causes TVs to have a fit and it turned out to not be a problem with any particular TV, but different TVs handled the issue differently.

It will do the same thing (less than hockey) on basketball games. After several contacts with the Panasonic help line a tech was finally able to re-produce the brightness flickering. According to him they are working on it. Don't know what that means or if a correction can be made. I'll tell you........watching a game with the picture constantly brightening every 10 seconds is not something a $3000 TV should do. I have talked to the store manager a couple of times and now I am the enemy for bringing up ANY issue with this set. It's now like the rip off car dealer. You paid. You signed the bottom line. Now get off the lot !!

VT30 and VT50 did the same thing with hockey and nba. Its the flashes. If you have the ability to pause and slow play, do this during one of the brightness pops and you'll slowly see the flash getting brighter and illuminating the players, then slowly fade away. I have not had that bad of flashing on my VT60 but i can see the flashed once in a while during the nba finals.
