I check back here every few days but this particular site seems to be dead in the water. Speaking of which ... my LG 50 6500 plasma is also dead in the water as of Sunday afternoon. I left the room for about 15 minutes and returned to find the screen blank. Running time was about 3 hours at that time. I hit the power button again (it is on the DVR master remote in this case) and I heard the familiar click only to hear it click again within a second or so. Repeated same several times then called Costco concierge. I had all the data except the actual receipt. Duh!! I had ordered it on line in April 2012 so the set is about 15 months old. I had checked the total run time about a week ago and I had just crossed the 1000 hour run time so there is about 1015 hours total. The actual LG remote control gives the same result, click on, click off, click on, click off.
The concierge had me do the usual things like pull the power cord and hold the on button in for at least 30 seconds. Try to find that tiny button under the lower frame when there is no red light to show where it is !!! Bottom line at that time was that the CR could not continue without some vital data on the sales slip. I checked all my emails in varous providers and there are several Costco slips for other items, just not the one I need. Murphy's Law #2 is in play. Went to local Costco store this morning, they provided a copy of the sales slip no problem and I called Costco Concierge again. This time a very nice lady answered and was soon up to speed regarding my problem and with what had transpired yesterday. She will contact a local service shop who they deal with and that shop should call within 48 hours to set up in-home service call.
I googled the problem and it turns out it is a common problem with the power supply board. It seems to come into play (out of play?) after about 15 months of operation. No kidding !!! 15 months you say. Gee, mine went down the dumper just about "on schedule" . This is not only an LG problem but is fairly widespread across the manufacturers.
I still have about 9 months of free Costco service and if the problem is not corrected or returns again later then I am assured that an exchange will be made pronto.
I knew my Costco membership would come in handy. If you are not a member I suggest you join. Case in point here. fairwood
