There is a member here, tom669, that is very good at sorting these problems out. Hopefully, he will see this thread and reply. If not, you could try to PM him.

Good Luck.

If the bottom half is grey (not black or otherwise faulty) then I'd be looking at the "AD board". PM me if you want the service documentation for this set.

I think Tom means the A board or the SD board. Probably the SD. There is no AD board in the 50px80u.

If you have the SM, you have this diagram:

A nice solid TV. I had one.

Good luck,
Larry

From the manual:

9 Self-check Function

1. Checking the IIC bus lines
2. Power LED Blinking timing

9.1. Check of the IIC bus lines

9.1.1. How to access Self-check indication only:

Produce TV reception screen, and while pressing [VOLUME ( - )] button on the main unit, press [OK] button on the remote control for more than 3 seconds.

Self-check indication and forced to factory shipment setting:

Produce TV reception screen, and while pressing [VOLUME ( - )] button on the main unit, press [MENU] button on the remote control for more than 3 seconds.

Post a picture of what it shows after running the test in 9.1.1. To exit, you unplug the unit from the wall or Surge strip if you have it plugged into one.

AD board = A+D board combined. I think they called it that on the 2007 series. Anyway, it is "A" board only now even though both functions are in one board. I reckon that is the fault, but you can do the test above and also a "mirror" test later (see SM) to narrow it down to A board.

I would not agree that half screen fault would be a bad panel unless your SD board fails again.

So, from those 7 inches onwards, pic is blank?
In a dark room can you see any glow from the blank portions?

OK, this indicates you most likely have a bad SU or SD buffer board.

See which portion of the screen is not working. The screen is divided into two halves vertically.

If the top half does not work properly (part or all is missing), replace the SU board.
If the bottom half does not work properly (part or all is missing), replace the SD board.

I did already !! I mentioned on past pot that, The missing or blank picture is more than 3 quarter of screen. It's across (horizontal) not vertical issue. What are think?
Thanks...confused.gif

Can you post a FULL image of your screen and not an image of part of it then, displaying something like a TV picture or analog snow. No where above do you say you replaced the SU or SD boards, am I missing something?

Sorry, did not see your post, but that is an SU board failure there. Only need to replace SU, not SD or SC, in this case.

sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead, but my 50px80u (purchased in Nov 2008) just started doing this also. I was wondering if you managed to get it fixed and if the process was easy.

Thanks.
