I recently acquired a Samsung PN60F5300 and did not see an owners thread for the Samsung 5300 series PDPs.

This my first plasma TV and so far I'm pleased with it. This is my third HDTV. The first was a Sammy 46" DLP that was replaced by a 47" LG LED LCD after the color wheel died.

As of now i have the Samsung PN51D490, but i got BURN IN that wont go away, its a bummer, but i cant stand it anymore, so i was thinking of getting the Samsung PN51F5300, does anybody know if the new sets look better, have better color and black level? And it has 1080p wich i need as i only watch blurays now, before i played games and had my PC hooked up to it and that caused the BURN IN....GRRR thanks for any advice.

I've owned one since March..I have been completely happy with it..no burn in..with heavy COD..can't speak about the improvement on the d series..but I do know it has very accurate colors and I am happy with the black levels..my previous set was a Pioneer RPTV..the Sammy performs as well as it did. For the price, it's a fantastic value. Just keep the contrast below 90 and you should have no problems with burn in at all..

happy owner of a 60Pnf5350 af got a few weeks ago its an amazing unit for under $8xxx i bought mine at costco. its even more impressive how it can be well calibrated via the user settings without using service menu.

i have awful hearing i need hearing aids but i can tell you that the speakers of this tv sound excellent for being stock speakers. no soundbar needed nor a home theater . (enable dts tru surround and equalizer increase 3khzt to max or 1 knotch under max )

i also find this panel to be very bright i always have my curtains and blinds .

the tv is light , however it is a 2 person job on the 60" model due to its size.

only con i can think of

i wish the tv would alot bigger given its price point.
xfett likes this.

Have a question for all of you F5300 owners...

This TV is a good TV - it just is not a "smart TV"...

Would the addition of the Google Chromecast USB - make this pretty much a "smart TV" - just like the upper-level F5500, etc.?

I am interested in purchasing this TV for my parents - who really have no use for smart TV technology.

But just in case...

I heard this TV had a great picture.

Exactly... my parents would not be into 3D either...

I wished I would have thought of this TV when Samsung had it's Holiday Deals during Christmas...

The 60" was $749.99 everywhere - now it is back up...

When in the first 200 or so hours of a plasma tvs life do I keep the cell light, contrast, brightness all down? Even while watching content that takes up the whole screen?

I think, it's better to use the "break-in" slides...

seems you dont understand plasma to break in means to age the pixels as fastest as possible using whole content screen . i ran all my plasma on standard not changing the contrast nor the brightness.

the lower the contrast and brightness the longer ( more time breaking in ) .The higher the contrast and brightness the faster the pixels age. so thus Normal or dynamic /vvid boost the ageing process BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN using dynamic or vvid mode.

Had a weird issue last night. I bought a new Bluray player yesterday, and played a few scenes from The Dark Knight Rises, no issues.

I then started watching TV, TDKR was on Cinemax, and on the last battle at the end I saw some red/green flicker on a few scenes. I watched the same scenes on Blu and nothing.

I've watched it for around 5 hours and that's the only time I've seen it.

Thoughts??

Most likely an issue on cinemax part. I would think.

This is what I was thinking. The picture quality on that channel stunk as well. I'll keep on eye on it though.

I brought one of these home today. Upgrading from the 46" Samsung LCD we paid $1,600 for in November 2008. Can't wait to get it unboxed and mounted (haven't opened it yet)

How big of a deal is it that I brought it home myself and transported it flat on its back? I have a Suburban but damn that's a big freaking box.

That's over 11 years even if you never turn it off. Not something to worry about.

I just picked up a Samsung PN51F5350AF from Costco last night. After using a 35" Mitsubishi for the last 18 years, all can say is this thing is amazing! I am presently just running OTA broadcast, and my only adjustment so far is changing the picture mode to "movie", as standard just seemed too dim, and dynamic is a bit to much at this point. I am concerned about break in, and of course IR. Is there any way to get a solid white screen? The cell is at 20, contrast 95, and brightness 45 . Should I go back to stand mode for the first XX hours? Thanks for any advise. Oh, I was just about to buy a Vizio E 55", before I saw this sammy. Hope I did OK.

try using these settings.

I bet that after you put 2 pt & 10 pt white balance you will be happier.try putting hdmi on normal and black tone off. and vizio is a pos compared to samsung, regardless of the tech vizio will always be lower end. you are cliping your whites by having contrast that high . 89 should be highest and contrast 47 .

Thanks for the reply. What a great TV! I made these settings last night, and it made a nice improvement.( http://www.avsforum.com/t/1503133/samsung-pn51f5300-what-a-little-gem-i1pro-calibration-results-inside#post_24021506 ).The black tone is on low. I will try the settings you suggest on the HDMI input, and leave the antenna input as is. I'm using a DVD/HDD?digital tuner as a STB with pass through, and OTA.
