Yeah, it's another one of those "help med decide" threads. Sorry but this has been driving me mad for the past week and I need some help deciding.

Here are the facts:

Time to replace my five year old 40" Samsung LCD that I have set up 8,2 feet from the couch with something new.
A Viera Plasma seems the way to go and I'm between getting the 55"ST60 or the 50"GT60.
I can get the ST60 for just under 2200 USD (converted from Swedish SEK). Not a spectacular price but acceptable. Seems like a great TV and I'm really tempted by the extra five inches. My concerns are the input lag (I do play games), the underpowered processor, just 1 pair of 3D glasses and the fact that 55" might take over the room and look out of place.

On the other hand we have the 50" GT60 which seems to be overall a better TV. I'm not going to start listing all the pros over the ST60 but to me the most important parts are the Hexa engine processor (faster menus and, crucially, low input lag), THX, and improved picture quality.
It's also about 470 USD cheaper than the ST60 (1700 USD). The only thing that has me hesitating is the smaller size. Is 50" good enough for my viewing distance (8") or does the 55" size of the ST60 outweigh the benefits and lower cost of the GT60?
Other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks smile.gif

I would get the 55". I was in your shoes last week, going from on 8yr-old 42" Panasonic that died, I bought a 50+" 60S. I first got the 50, and then after getting opinions of neighbors and friends, realized that if possible, you will always wish you went bigger. So I took it back and got the biggest one that would fit the available space, a 60ST. So if it is down to a 50GT or a 55ST, I would def pick the 55". You can't go wrong with either one of those, just get the biggest one you can. No regrets that way!

Yeah, the "bigger is always better" argument does have some merit, I agree, but I guess you got to draw the line somewhere. I am a bit concerned 55" will look abnormally large in my living room.
What's your viewing distance?

My viewing distance is 8 feet (middle of couch to TV). I just went through the same thing: My wife felt that 60in was too large and would look disproportionate to the fireplace and curtains and overwhelm the room. I felt that the larger size would add to the action and realism of sporting events and movies and was in proportion because it matched the width of the fireplace mantle. I ended up getting the 60in.

It all depends on viewing preference. I have a 60in and sit 10ft from my panel with my eye level about at the middle of the screen. For some programming like 3D or 2.35:1 blu rays I will move my viewing distance to 9ft.

Well I finally decided! Got a 55VT60 delivered yesterday and I've been playing around with it all day. Wow what a TV... and beautiful too! smile.gif
