Ooh, I'm scared. Technology marches on. Plasma is on its deathbed, its death has not greatly been exaggerated, and the OLEDs are coming. /end

So you are going to destroy the ZT60 which you bought then. Plasma isn't even close to dead yet, and you can shove you cheap OLED/LCD phone in my face, and I'll break it for you.

We have our niche still. And baiting and switching with OLED is not enough to save the TV market. Micro-LED is a farce; and Plasma has successfully reduced the price of an LCD TV considerably, though I would be the last to buy one that isn't a computer monitor. Let us hope the best technology wins in its appropriate areas.

Right! There seems to be some animosity there that's unrelated to total technical ignorance. As for me being Korean, my son is in Korea at this moment in charge of installing that giant printing device that will be able to apply the organic part of OLED for six 55" screens from one sheet of glass. As I understand it, Kateeva's process is one of over thirty processes needed to get the final product, and it's an early step on the road to ramping up production in order for prices to come down. Since I would like to own an OLED display before Alzheimer's sets in, I hope Kateeva is a fantastic success.

As for who Kateeva is, all anyone would have to do is read their press release. MIT and Applied Materials are two of the involved co-conspirators. eek.gif

Enjoy and don't go back into the rabbit hole unless it's fun. biggrin.gif

Crazy train, for sure.

Unless you sit 5 feet away and your TV is 65", you won't notice a difference anyway.

Wider color gamut will be nice though especially at 10 to 12 bit.

I saw the difference from 8 feet away on the 55" Sony and LG 4K sets compared to the 1080p LCDs in the Magnolia section playing the BB store feed. There were less jaggies and stair-stepping on the 4K, and the image was smoother, but it was also dimmer and appeared softer. I didn't fiddle with the settings so i don't know if the image could be made brighter or sharper, but the lack of jaggies got my attention.

I saw 4K Samsung demo (55" F9000) at Best Buy and it was amazing! I was away about 8 feet as well and I could definitely see the difference. Totally changed my perspective towards 4K for sure.

Doesn't matter how good it looks until there is content to watch. Maybe bestbuy will start selling their demo loop.

Same Here, although I saw the Sony 65 inch. I saw Pacific Rim 3D demo @ bestbuy on the 65X900A and was blown away by what I saw. The 4K looked amazing as well. I just couldn't justify paying what they are asking for a 55 inch set. 65 inch models are way out of price range. If vizio actually delivers on their P series with the pricing they have listed, it will be interesting to see how other manufacturers price their sets. Having said that, I still think Panasonics final plasma offerings as well as the F8500 series are much better options right now and a much better value!!

Maybe the signals need to catch up IMO before worrying about super improvements on TV's. 2014 and still a big majority of signals are standard definition????

I'm with you. I thought long and hard whether to jump on now as Panny leaves the station or consider something new next year. I've been making do with a Sony 20" CRT forever and watching friend's big screens for all the important stuff. Being a perfectionist of sorts I'm always thinking things to death. Very glad I now have a ZT to keep me occupied as I watch the next wave of screen tech shake out. It'll be a few years before something really beats it for 2K.

Told my brother today that Panny was getting out of plasma. This was his reply: "da consumers gave up da plasmas, because da consumers are dumb dumbs who flock to the brightest screen in the store like so many brainless moths."

Lol! Well put bro. smile.gif
