A MAC address does not give a physical location of a device and almost all devices are behind a router these days which obscures all info about devices on the LAN.

Samsung UA55HU9000, Klipsch Quintet 5.1, Onkyo TX-NR515AE

I don't think you understand what he wrote. He is saying the information never reaches the net. You could only see the TV's MAC address if you were on the same local network.

I am going to assume that the OP does not have any sort of renters or homeowners insurance as that would be the proper way to pursue this.

No, very few TVs include such a system.
Panasonic TVs have owner ID, maybe some others do too, but this only helps police in verifying owner once TV is found.

I found a way to find how to locate thief
Updating in Samsung web Firmware
Samsung see the S / N that updates
So Samsung can send me an hour of Edit + IP address

So the police can catch the thief

I doubt the Samsung set sends Samsung a SN when doing a firmware download. At best, they might have a mac address of the wireless card, but they won't tie that to any sort of trackable serial number, and they certainly wouldn't hand it over to you.

You would have to likely get a subpoena to get that information which you would then have to have a subpoena to the ISP which would be timestamped, then a prosecutor would have to file charges and then move forward.

This is why insurance is out there, there are a very small number of property crimes solved in this country, losing stuff sucks, but the police aren't going to do much for you here.

This also assumes the thief even uses the smart TV functionality. They probably just want a big TV.

And then if they sell it on Craigslist to some innocent guy you're going to persecute them when they do use smart TV? Obviously they shouldn't buy a stolen item, but how would they know?
