So Can someone with knowledge of where this stand now update this thread?

Being close to black friday I am ready to update my 530 50" Samsung plasma (which I have had 0 issues with)

There are a few models to choose from

8500 series (no known reports?)

8000 series (where most recent issues arise?)

5500 series (no known reports?)

5350 series

5300 series

550 series

530 series

Was it a specific version of firmware that allowed heat to move beyond safe levels?

Was it a specific model number that was manufactured in a certain area?

Is it a regional issue and only happened when temperatures rose in summer or range of temperature changed drastically, or high humidity?

In other words what are the facts?

If I go with a samsung TV - plasma based what should I avoid what should I pay close attention to (saying stay away is not helpful)
