First, this is not a question of whether you should tip a driver to help you with extra services.

I am wondering how many of you have had the need to do it --- and the success rate.

I am getting a 65" display delivered to my home tomorrow.  I will be by myself.

Driver's responsibility is to only unload display and leave at driveway.

Plan to persuade the driver to do the following with my assistance...

* Bring display into house and up one flight of stairs to second floor.

* Lift old display from stand and place in corner of room

* Allow me to unbox and put pedestal on display

* Lift new display onto stand

The display weighs 125 lbs.

I would estimate that is 15-20 minutes worth of help at most.

Plan to tip driver $60 for the job.

Just hoping driver will be enticed by the proposal.

Have any of you done anything similar?

For $60, I'd do everything you mentioned, as well as fetch you a drink and cook you dinner. That's a hell of a tip.

Assuming you tip them that much as they're setting it up... I think they'll be happy to.

Don't know if I am going to hand them $60 and risk them refusing to help.

I intend to give them the money.

Driver is due here within the hour.  Will let you know how it goes.

Maybe I'm cheap, for that type of extra work, I'd tip probably $20. That's probably more than their one hour pay rate.

Driver could not have been cooler.

When I mentioned the money, he smiled and said "sure."

He helped me bring the display up a flight of stairs.  Helped unbox and put the pedestal together.

In all, under 20 minutes as I had hoped.
