Just bought the Panasonic St60 60 inch and the blacks are great. My problem is with the whites, specifically of ice in watching ice hockey. Is there a adjustment that I am missing or a recalibribration that will make the ice look white. Even vivid looks somewhat gray and or foggy. Do I need to get an LCD LED TV to watch hockey?
Love everything else about the TV.

That's the effect of auto brightness limiting that you are noticing. If you want super-bright whites when watching hockey then you'll (probably) have to look at an LCD model, or spring for a Samsung F8500 plasma. However it'll be tough (i.e. impossible) to find something that can match the ST60 in other picture-quality categories at the same price.

Thanks for your input. I can get get some of the gray put by adjusting the pro settings in custom by increasing AGC, black extension, and gamma to 2.6 in gamma detail adjustment/ i have left panel brightness on mid. I assume there is no way to turn off auto dimming? Is there a way to tweak the black // white detail adjustment as well. Unfortunately,, the hockey settings don't help the football picture ( I like the native custom setting). For movies, the cinema with D nice settings and home theater work well.
I have considered switching to the sony kdl 55 802a as well.I could look at a smaller samsung 8500 too.

You have CATS turned off and Power Saving (in Eco Settings) set to 'Standard', right?

I have CATS off and powersaving eco at standard. Contrast is between 79-100%. I am adjusting the custom mode settings.

Perhaps there is a way to get into the service menu and turn ABL off. I know with my old Pioneer 5020, one can get into service menu and basically set it to a much higher value to keep ABL from kicking in. Kept the same blacks and produces a much brighter image with white backgrounds.
