But how exactly is combimask 6 suppose to look? Maybe it's clear and I don't know it...

On mine, it's white, but flashing different colours. even at 230 FSAD.

I should mention that I was didn't have any red-tint, I was just looking to get deeper blacks. Before the reset, I was getting 0.0049 cd/m2
It should be clear at 230 and I'm sure it is but you don't realise it.

COMBI MASK 6 is a very intense strobe flashing light and it can play tricks with your eyes as I'm sure looking directly at it is not good for us! My 10k hour 500A needs FSAD @ 171 to completely clear COMBI MASK 6 of Magenta misfires, and remember its only the Magenta misfires that you want to clear, it will always flash crazily. Having FSAD at 128 you will clearly see Magenta pixels all over the Mask, just raise FSAD until they are cleaned up.

I would lower XSUS_B and YSUS_B one or two more notches (124 or 123) as 20k hours is a lot and a full white field needs to be 100% clean

Thanks, buttonsw and makaveddie81.

My LX5090 turns itself off when I set FSAD to 200. Not immediately, but about 60 seconds after displaying an image.

When FSAD is set to 190, I'm not sure if COMBI MASK 6 is clear, but I still have some black rain. It's minimal when RSTP is set to 60.

Is ABL at default on your set or did you raise it?

I did raise ABL to 210, but the buzzing noise was too much for me, so I lowered it down to 125 (which is the default I think).

I bet you didn't lower it on all the drive modes, and whatever drive mode you're using to display the mask still has ABL at 210.

You need to display a different mask (one that is not full on white so the TV doesn't shut off) using each drive mode to change the ABL setting for each mode.

But Patrik gave me a list of commands to change ABL to 210 and I did all the commands again at 125 - I checked every command, so I don't think there's a problem here. I'll do them all again.

Don't suppose you know the commands to change ABL? xD

I don't have Patrik's messages anymore.

you can change it using the service menu overlay / display

simply display a pattern using the desired drive mode

then navigate to the panel function menu (i believe) and change the ABL setting. wash rinse and repeat for the rest of the drive modes.

if the set is turning off when displaying combi mask 6, then it'sa good bet that ABL is still set to 210 for the drive mode used to display the mask.

this is why i don't touch abl on my sets.

It sounds like you have brightness too high

Lower brightness to -1 or -2 and look very carefully and closely at a black screen. Now raise the brightness until you see dithering/noise. When you see that turn the brightness down one click and then it is set

What about VSUS? Should I leave this to the post-reset default? 128?

Inarbi posted a table sometime ago for values of VSUS at different hours.

Has anyone tried to contact a Pioneer service engineer? There's been some heated debates in this thread and it's hard to know what's good and bad.

I don't touch it. If I see any sparkles on the AVSHD709 main menu AFTER adjusting SAD to clear combi mask 6 of misfires, then I lower xsus and ysus one tick at a time until the sparkles go away.

I'm a (second )owner of Elite 101FD with around ~ 12,000 (panel) hours.

(Note that i'm using kuro-command. It allows real-time adjustment using your PC without displaying factory menu on screen)

Is there a potential downside in maxing out VSU ?

The setting that i currently use clears my set of intermittent subpixels and get pretty decent blacks without red tint and no crushed blacks.

VSU maxed (255)
VYF 108
V4F 169
XSB and YSB @ 124

(and RSTP is 1)

Note that i never power off my display. When i don't use it, it's just in standby mode.
Also note that i have the fan set constantly on

Thanks

You said in one of your posts that VSUS doesn't change with aging, which is very interesting.

What values do change with age?

RSTP, VOL OFFSET and one of the XPOFS changes post reset. After reset, RSTP went down (which means it goes up over time), VOL OFFSET went up (which means it goes down over time).
The only difference that I saw between the 50 inch and 60 inch sets is that on the 60 inch sets XPOFS1 went down after reset (meaning it increases over time) while on the 50 inch set, XPOFS2 went UP after reset (meaning it decreases over time).
