I watched True Blood and a movie w/ black bars on top and bottom w/ black optimizer turned on to "dark room". No signs of floating blacks to me.
I did however notice what seemed to be a white lighting around the top and bottom of the screen. It was very thin and not noticeable except for the fact that I was hunting the screen for things out of sorts.

I didn't have a source for a white screen, but I did pause a scene w/ a large amnt of white, and the example shorts on Netflix for calibration w/ a white circle in the center of the screen. No pink tint at all.

Just purchased a 51" 5300, haven't brought it home yet as I don't want the return period to start until I have time in my schedule to thoroughly check it out.

So I appreciate the advice about the pink push and floating blacks and so forth.

Going to look for a thread telling how to check these out, and also eg. to check for dead pixels. (Time to go to work now!)

Thanks!

PS Do I really need a calibration disc? I read an article referenced here that said Disney's is the easiest to use. Never calibrated my Panasonic and pic has been just fine . . .

If you still have the episode of True Blood, I see floating blacks with my F5300 on the scene with Eric and Pam talking while he is sitting down in the chair looking sickly. When the camera cuts back and forth from Pam (bright background) to Eric (dark background) the black level fluctuates.

Oh ya, and how is buzzing on this set?

Went back and watched that scene, don't see it at all. I don't notice any buzzing at all. I never have on a plasma though. I had a bad bearing on the color wheel of my DLP, and I let that go for almost a year though. Now that is pretty bad buzzing

Looking for a stand for this TV. How deep does the top shelve of the stand need to be to accommodate the chicken foot base?

I don't have this television, but I do own last years 64f5300 model. I would guess that the stands for these are identical. If this is the case, then the stand is 15" deep. Also, it is 32.25" wide at the front two feet( rear two feet are spaced closer together). Again, I am only guessing that they are identical.

I just ordered one, I'll compare to my Panny 54 S2. I'm guessing it'll be an improvement. I don't need the frills, just a good display. My playstation and bose sys takes care of the rest.

Where you buy it from?

I haven't seen anyone reporting pink tint issues yet on this set, so it's possible they fixed something since the 2013 models.

Amazon. I'm a prime member and had the points to pay for it so I'm not really out of pocket anything. I wanted another panny in the future but I didn't realize they stopped making them. Once I heard Samsung was going to stop, I went ahead and bought one as I wanted to go from a 54 to ~65. I wasn't needing or really ready for a new TV, but I can't stand LCD/LED's at the moment so I jumped the gun.

Stin, put an all white screen on this weekend. No pink tint issue at all. Pure white all the way around.

Great time to jump the gun. I love it, although very reflective. More so than my cheap LG plasma.
Make sure you get them to price match it, it is only $1097 at Fry's this week.

I went through the cart to see what the price was for my price match (made it the last day of my 14 day window) and it showed free shipping in the cart.

EDIT: Not like that anymore. It must have been an error in their system or they changed it. I know it was avail on Friday because I commented how I thought I saved even more w/ Amazon because Fry's would charge for shipping, but not the case since they have free shipping option.

I'll measure the stand tonight (mine is on the wall, but I can measure just the stand) if you still need the info.

That makes me wonder, what does everyone do w/ their stand when they mount their TVs on the wall? The are rather big, and awkward so they don't store well. I don't anticipate ever pulling it off the wall, but I suppose anything is possible.
Is there any value w/ them? I can't imagine anyone would want to buy one w/ the TV being rather new, and the lack of posts on here indicate that not many people are buying this one.

That's good to hear, is there an dirty screen effect (DSE)? My 60F5300 has both pint tint and DSE (really noticeable in panning shots of bright colors).

At this point I'm thinking of returning it and buying a W1070 projector for $700. I don't think I am going to be happy with a 64" screen when I could have 125". I still have a 50" Panasonic plasma that I could use during the day for non-critical stuff.

It actually was available for shipping for awhile on Friday -- I should've ordered it, but instead went to pricematch with Amazon... But by the time Amazon looked, it was no longer available for delivery, so they won't price match. I guess I wait, since Fry's has had deals on the TV all month it seems; hopefully they have one more in the near future because, as others have said, with Samsung exiting the plasma business, I want one last one before it's too late.

Has anyone found this TV anywhere in a B&M store? I cannot seem to find any stores in Michigan that have it on the floor or in stock.

It looks like it's at Fry's if you have one nearby (and it's on sale today -- I just missed out on having it shipped last Friday, still kicking myself since there's no Fry's local here):

Otherwise, no, I haven't seen it anywhere.

I saw one at a BrandsMart in Atlanta this past Sun. I was ready to buy, but it was out of town, and it wouldn't fit in my car. It was on sale there for $1200, but they were willing to sell it a little below cost at $1149 just to unload one of their last 5 (claiming they will no longer sell it later).

Even though I just about bought one, and I am still debating this and the 64F5300, since it doesn't have a pentile display (or the 60F5300). From more than a few feet away, the 5000 didn't bug me, and seemed to be a very good picture (despite being a floor model with less than optimal settings). I don't know if I want to take a chance on the pink tint issue of the 60F5300, and give up the better blacks of the 5000. Don't mean to start another 5000 vs. 5300 debate. But I haven't seen that discussed a whole lot. Seen some. Thoughts?

I recently sold my home and with it my Panasonic 65ST50. I'm now thinking about replacing the ST50 with the H5000 and was wondering how much picture quality if anything I might be losing. The H5000 would be used in the basement where I won't have a complete dark environment during the day, but it will still have some light control. I don't need 3D since I'll have a 65" Sony LCD with passive 3D upstairs for watching the handful of 3D films I have. I'm planning on using the H5000 mainly for blu-rays and Netflix/Amazon Prime until the price of a 65" or 70" OLED gets close to $3,000--say 3 years from now--and this is why I don't want to spend $3,000 now for an F8500. The pentile display worries me a little. I'll be sitting about 10 feet from the screen.

This set is on my very short list between it and the Vizio M652i-B2 . Has anybody experienced any judder with video playback on Blu or DVD. Is 7' two close for viewing that I might experience the screen door effect with the pentile screen. I would love to hear about any delights or issues with it since there is not a lot of user feedback posted anywhere.

Well, mine arrived this past Thursday so I've been running it all weekend. Replacing my Panny P54S1 that is 5 years old. I'm not an expert, I just bought one b/c I wasn't ready to buy one and did so quickly b/c I can't find a Panasonic and Samsung announced this would be their last year. I'm not ready to move to LCD/LED yet. I bought off of Amazon using points for $1297 with Prime shipping. The same company that delivered my previous 2 Panny TV's 5 years ago delivered this one and were top notch, AGAIN. They seem to be bought out/merged as they were Eagle1 before but have some type of relationship with CEVA now. I'm seen a couple bad reviews on this company on Amazon, but wanted to say they were top notch, just like 5 years ago.

Initial thoughts:

1. Not sure if it's b/c it's a 10" bigger screen but it definitely reflects more light. This is in my living room with windows around. Blinds and drapes only do so much and I knew this going into it. It's just my main TV viewing area.
2. Standing close you do see the pixels but I'd say you see it even farther away than what most people say. People say putting your nose on it, but I can see it at 3-4 feet, though note, my normal viewing distance is ~14 feet away so it wasn't a concern for me.
3. Blacks are better than my Panny but I also could be the victim of the Panny sofware issue that adjusted the blacks over time.
4. The 3 picture modes out of the box are Dynamic, Standard, and Movie with Dynamic the default. I don't like the Dynamic and Standard and movie looks the best preset mode. Note, this is in a brighter room not ideal for daytime TV, again, I knew that ahead of time.
5. I'm still trying to figure out the colors. Watching the golf tournament, the 'Greens' looked good, but it's when I see brighter colors that I'm not crazy about it. They seem brighter than my panny. This could be a Sharpness thing and I'm just not used to it but the yellow/pinks/bright blues seem to stand out more. Maybe more than I like. Though, maybe b/c the Black is darker, they're popping more and I'm not used to it, but I am in the darker 'Movie' mode. The Dynamic mode might as well be a LED on the store torch setting.
6. I like the stand better than my Panasonic stand, though it could be an inch or two shorter and it'd be perfect
7. I like the thinner bezel around the television, makes my Panasonic look dated.

I'm happy with it, I think it's the bright colors I have to play with or get used to. The darker colors are better than my old TV yet I like the brighter colors better on the older TV

I'm using At&T Uverse and a Playstation 3 for my content running into an older Bose system that has the HDMI extension unit.

I have yet to watch a Blu-Ray as I want the TV to break in. Maybe after I get around to using some breakin slides.
