My topic pretty much says it all. I am debating between the 2 sets currently. I will use my PC for Movies, Xbox One, PS4, HTPC and Cable. I'm not sure where the future of 3d is heading and I'm curious if anyone feels that 3D is worth the additional $200? Thank you.

It wasn't for me, I bought the 5300. You are also losing the smart hub features with the 5300 but if you have a roku or apple tv already you probably wouldn't use those anyway.

Save the money or buy a new sub or something. If you want 3d and smart tv then buy it. The 5500 lacks a cms compared to the f5300 and f4500 if you care about calibrating.

While disappointed about not having a CMS and 10pt White Balance on the 5500, the 3D is very good, and much better than I expected. So much so, I'm going to invest in some 3D movies, which I didn't care much about before. The Smart TV is pretty neat as well, if you don't already have the functionality. At the time I bought the 60" version, the price difference was only $100, so it wasn't much of a decision. I don't know if I would have paid an extra $200, especially on a 51" set. You'll enjoy either one, so good luck!

+1 the 3D isn't worth the extra money. As for the smart TV features just get a ROKU or make a HTPC.

The F5500 has fewer calibration controls than the F5300

My guess is the F5300 is a better display as it has the calibration controls and does not have the dreaded looking pentile screen. My brother has the 51" F5300 and I was impressed with it especially for the money.

I would (and did) buy the P51F5300 and save the $200. When you're talking about TVs in this price range, it seems that value is a priority. I have no desire for 3D.

Only the 60" Displays of the 5300/5500 have a Pentile structure. They are the same screen on both models at all sizes, the features are just different. The only other difference I've seen mentioned here (and maybe somewhere else on the internet) is the 5500 can get brighter. My guess is because you need the extra umph for 3D due to the glasses.
