What do you guys think??  I would go with the 64 inch and can get one for a fair price.  I currently have  a 50 inch Pioneer Kuro that is about 5 years old.  I am also a plasma fan.  It sounds like most manufactures are getting away from plasma so I don't want to miss the buss.  However, would I be smarter to wait and hope that the Kuro makes it until OLED prices come down?? I should mention the F8500 is at the very top of my budget. Aaaagghhh.  Help me make a decision!!!

I think the size alone is worth the upgrade, plus you will be getting a great display. The size alone should compensate for the less pq you would be getting.

Take a good look at the H5000 as well. It's also a good TV if you can live with its pentile factor.

Just got my 64" F8500 yesterday, arrived with no issues whatsoever but took 10 days to arrive after ordering. My manufacture date is March 2014! Just made this month. It is an UNBELIEVABLE panel, you will not be disappointed. The build quality and brightness are amazing. I got mine 20% off at Paul's TV, but that coupon code has now expired. I think your cheapest option at this point will be Chris @ ClevelandPlasma.com / ClevelandAV.com. We watched Men in Black 3 in 3D last night and it knocked my socks off! I wish they made them in a smaller size so I could upgrade my bedroom TV to the same panel. smile.gif

I set my settings to Kevin Miller's settings from TweakTV and am more than happy with the results without a $450 professional calibration to be done.

As Nike says - JUST DO IT! You won't be disappointed, I guarantee it!

Congrats! Mine's only 2 weeks old. Loving it! What do think of the smart remote? Spend some time figuring out how it works. I use it for the tv and cable box.

Samsung PN64F8500 Smart TV (64" Plasma-2013); LG BD 390 Blu-ray Player; Denon AVR-1709; Nakamichi MB CD Player; Verizon FiOS Motorola 7 Series Cable Box (500GB Hard Drive).  Pioneer Elite 1120 (5th Generation Plasma- 2005); Denon AVR 2800 (2000); Oppo Blu-ray 103 w/Roku Stick; Sony Carousal CD;...

Now would seem like a good time to buy. I believe I read where the 2014 F8500 models are unchanged from the 2013 models so there may be good deals out there. I just ordered a PN60F8500 from an online vendor for $1969 plus free shipping. Not sure if it was manufactured in 2013 or 2014 but it probably wouldn't make any difference.

It's really worthwhile, I thought it would be gimmicky but I use the voice feature a lot.

So no directional buzzing when sitting at dead center with the 64"? I think I'm going to have to go with that, my 60" is driving me insane and my confidence of Samsung fixing it is very very very low. :-/

I most certainly have directional buzzing on my 64F8500. It's worse in movie mode than standard and is louder or quieter depending on the content.

During normal viewing with my audio system on it doesn't bother me but if I specifically listen for the buzzing I can tune it in.

Which Kuro model do you have?

If you're in the market for a bigger TV it probably makes most sense to jump on a plasma since it's basically at it's most mature point in history and soon will be going bye bye. If you're in a small space sitting 7 feet from the tv i'd just keep the Kuro.

I have a PRO-150FD and a 65F8500.

The Pioneer PDP has a seven year w/10,000 (+) hours of operation head start over the Samsung... it remains to be seen which PDP dies first.

My Pioneer is a PDP 5080. I love her. Going to move her to the bedroom if and when I decide to buy the Sammy. She won't get as much use in the bedroom therefore hopefully lengthening her lifespan.

Some owners have put a small, Thermaltake fan on the back of their F8500. Apparently it lowers the temperature by roughly 20 degrees.

Why would Samsung care? They sold their TV. This is just a few owners who want to go above and beyond in hopes of keeping their TV running for as long as possible. No one is even claiming this will improve anything.

Less heat is always a good thing. One fan venting out on top is not messing with air flow and only helping. I can not believe how hot the TV gets, Samsung should have put fans on it. Funny enough, it would have even drowned out some buzz noise smile.gif

My 50" PDP in the MBR was just the right size. When I got the 64F8500 I moved my 60" PRO-150FD into the MBR and its TOO BIG for the room.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to suffer. biggrin.gif

IMO
it's going to be a while before a better tv is available. oled is going to be nice, but not yet. lcd will never keep up.

nobody else is going to improve on current plasmas, unfortunately the market is dieing

so for me, it would be a question of when you buy the f8500. 100% you should buy it, but will it be cheaper in a month? I have no idea. I bought mine last year in april and I have zero regrets.

sorry the 5080 is NOT a kuro . its a generation earlier . (8g) and the pioneer will last longer then samsung ( better quality build . and samsung generally appears to be more of cartoon look rather then cinematic feel like your pioneer . i have a true kuro and elite version of it as well as the budget 5300 samsung plasma

Actually the 5080 is indeed a KURO - i almost bought the 42" version back in 2007 and they were definitely marketed as KURO (i didn't know what it meant back then). It's Kuro-ness was a big deal on the forums back then.

While the old tank-like Pioneers admittedly had better build quality than the Samsungs (or any other current or recent brand and model for that matter), as long as the Sammy is functioning normally it should last as long as any other brand.

I thought I remember it being a "Kuro" . What exactly is the difference anyways?? I did purchase the F8500 64 inch. SUPER EXCITED but my dealer said they are back-ordered. HUGE BUMMER. He thought it would ship the end of next week. Pretty confident in my decision. My Pioneer will always be my baby.
I have had nothing but bad luck with any Samsnung product I have ever bought. Washer, drier, DVD player, etc. was really looking for a VT 65 inch based solely on my past experiences with Samsung. However, since they have increased so much in price, it just wasn't worth spending that much extra to get a TV that is MAYBE just slightly above the Sammy. Furthermore the Sammy is going in a living room that has quite a lot of light. Hoping Samsung doesn't let me down this time.

Who did you order from? You could always try Cleveland Plasma.

The 8th gen Pioneers were indeed the first Kuros. They offered a huge advance in black level performance from the previous generations.
