Update: So after a 2 week vacation, finally got the tech back out with the new panel. After a bit of a struggle pulling the tv down, replacing, then struggling to put it back up (twice, one of the connections came loose so we had to pull the back off again), I now have brand new panel. And since he used the old main board, none of my settings were lost. So, I just have to subtract 500 hours now so I know how much this panel has.

He basically told me no reason to break in, as the technology these days is good enough not to worry about IR or burn in. I'm very happy and will be watching a quick movie to check out the picture.

No free netflix for me in Canada. Denied due to an ineligible product.

I always love emails that start out with Dear Valued Customer. Pfffft.

Whatever....thanks LG and ABC incentives.

Take it farther, most say unavailable once you choose the store. I am assuming the warehouse is out. Frys did the same thing when the Panny's went on clearance. Couldn't find one to save my life!

Yeah just saw that I got mine at Microcenter for $599.99 so I'm not worried about saving $50 if anyone else is interested check your local microcenter for PB6650 same as PB6600 just built in wifi.

If you want a good, cheap plasma, get the Samsung 60F5300.

The Samung has better black levels. LG has better shadow detail (according to cnet reviews of last years plasmas). LG matches Samsung in color accuracy and pretty much everything else besides black levels. Plus Samsung has pentile display on their 60" model. The LG is the better value at this moment.

I still have my TV in the box it came in. For Poti-tuning:
Do you have to lay the TV down, or could I just unscrew the back of the TV while it stands in the styrofoam box, before I mount the stand? Or will the "screen-glas" fall of or something crazy?

Not just better blacks, black level on the Samsung is actually pretty good. They're terrible on the LG. Contrast in the most important picture quality aspect. Pentile is a non issue, I have it.

If you're up close pentile will look bad. I'm sure if I had a Samsung plasma next to my LG I could tell the difference but I don't and black levels look very good on the LG.

I have the Panasonic 5077PXU and want something bigger. I really like my Panny and have had zero issues with it in the 7-8 years that I have had it. On paper many of the specs are better. I'm sure its runs cooler than my Panny and I know its about 20 lbs lighter. Is the LG comparable in PQ since its so much newer??

Black levels aren't as good as my Panasonic was. My Samsung 5300 even has slightly better blacks. But the shadow detail and color accuracy on the LG blows out both my Panasonic and Samsung.

So far it has been a great plasma for the price.
On what basis are you judging color accuracy? It doesn't look like there is a single user, including yourself who has measured the panel response using a meter. Making statements on color accuracy is completely meaningless without the data and measurements to back it up. Both the LG and Samsung F5300 have 10 pt white balance and CMS controls. The Samsung threads have several users (including myself) who have posted calibration results along with CIE charts showing color accuracy of the F5300 post calibration. From the one published review with data, this set appears to have horrific black levels but that may very well be an issue with the reveiwer or the unit they had. But your statement about the LG set "blowing Panasonic and Samsung out of the water" when it comes to shadow detail and color accuracy is meaningless without measurement with meters. If people could eyeball color accuracy without a meter like you, we wouldn't have an entire sub-forum on display calibration here at AVS. Several folks have also measured the Movie mode on the F5300 to be quite accurate with out of the box settings. In comparison, the published review posted earlier in the thread shows a large blue tint in whites with out of the box settings.

I'm not knocking this set. For the current price at BB, it seems like a fantastic deal. But after going through this thread, there are tons of statements about black levels, shadow details and color accuracy being thrown around in comparison to the Samsungs without a single measurement posted. I'd take those statements with a fistfull of salt till some reputable reviewer or a user here gets a chance to take some basic measurements with a decent meter. If anyone here has the LG set and a decent meter, feel free to PM me and I can help you get measurements using HCFR on your set. I'm certainly curious to see how this set stacks up against the other Plasma panels out there.

For reference: This is what I achieved with my Samsung PN60F5300 - All Grayscale delta E values below 1.0 and All Saturation and Primary/Secondary delta E values below 2.0. I really don't know how you can blow that out of the water given that we can't really perceive differences of ~dE = 3.0. At best, I think both sets should be capable of extremely good color accuracy.

I can't pickup this TV in store or have it delivered. I guess they are sold out in Dallas, TX. Oh well, my 50" Panny is still doing great.

You need to lay it down. The panel could possibly fall out, as it is held into place with the back cover screws. I just had a tech out to replace the panel and we laid it down. Also, he told me be careful with the poti tuning. It puts a lot of stress on thr micro processor and could short it put over time. I'm probably still going to do it next time I take the tv down.

I don't watch tv from 6 inches away. From 3' you can't see pixels, from my viewing distance of 8' it's a complete non issue.

I love how you're coming up with all of these opinions and you don't even own the tv.

I've had a local TV service place out to figure out my clipping/lag issue. they suspect its the main board, that will be replaced this week. if that does not work they have to replace the panel. if that does not work i will be demanding a new BETTER model tv.

I've seen the tv in person and pentile is an issue for me at 5-6 feet on a 60"

Some people experience a greater SDE on a pentile display. For most, at 60", if you sit at least 8ft away, it shouldn't be an issue. I would worry more about the propensity for the 60" F5300 to be pink than anything.

I understand the frustration. But I wouldn't let one "bad egg" ruin the whole bunch for you. I've had my set since April with zero issues, and I know that there are a lot of others like me out there. Unfortunately, you just got a bum TV. Hopefully they fix it and you are all set. It really is a solid TV.

I've never had an actual "in-home" experience with an LG LED. Only when I worked at Best Buy did I mess with them.

The price for the 70LB7100 is OUTRAGEOUS! If only I could afford a TV that costs that much! But, outside of bright room performance, I wonder if it really performs better than the 6600? If you want all the bells and whistles though, that TV seems to have it!

see I'm very worried that the LED will not live up to expectations and have blur during football or nascar or other shows. I'm a plasma person. all the tvs in the house are plasma but the price and size is beyond tempting. and id be SUPER pissed if i drove an hour to get the tv then hour home to have it suck ass.
