I am looking for a 42" TV needs to be 1080p I sit really close to it. It seems there are quite a few 1080p releases over the years. I know I will be buying a used TV but I want the best PQ I can find.

Hi Frederick, if you sit at monitor distance you can still buy a monitor brand new

Panasonic TH-42BT300U (2011)

It is based on the VX300 with dual subfield design, power supply comes from VT20 and the board designs are quite beefed up from the ST30

As far as picture quality what would the BT300U be closest to?

The BT300U uses the same core plasma panel module as the ST30 series but it has a different black filter on the panel, and the outer Anti-Reflective Filter is completely different.

The Pro monitors all use a conventional non-directional AR Filter since these are basically electronic signs used in a business environment and are viewed from all angles and are also sometimes mounted vertically, where the consumer model TVs use a Louver Filter that is designed to reject light from above.

Here's a related thread with a link to a nice review of it:

Sorry I forgot to mention no speakers or stand or tuner included.

The official stand is called TY-ST20-K but other stands which attach to the wall mounting holes can possibly work as I have done on my 42PF30(below) just make sure it support the weight

The closest thing picture wise is the PF30 and VX300, all the guts are the same except for the dual subfield drive which doubles the number of displayable shades (only in Cinema and Monitor modes) and you will have alot more finer control over color.

For your future reference here is a list of compatible accessories and also the the RJ45/serial command list
