I had a D550 that buzzed like crazy. Drove me nuts. Didn't know until I took it down from a mantle and put it on a tv stand. Up high, no issue, at sitting height, could hear it over everything in direct view. It didn't matter for very long because I, in a slight inebriated state, cracked the plasma .

I just purchased an LG PB6600 over the F5300. I am really happy with my choice. It is an excellent tv and surprisingly, I am making use of the Smart features.

You won't find a buzzing free plasma, they all buzz at some degree ,if you can heard it while watching TV that's is unacceptable, if you get obsessed with a slightest buzzing, your mind is bothering you more than the actual noise, is the same obsession that happens with the LCD, light bleed, clouding, flashlighting, spotlighting, that makes people return several tvs till they find the most acceptable one.

Even people who do not own meters should watch it. It is a step by step process of a calibration being done in a home and they describe everything they are doing and why. Even settings you would do without a meter.

I cannot stress it enough how great this video is and how much more knowledgeable it can make someone who knows nothing about calibrations once they watch it. It will give you a fundamental idea of the whole process. It really helped me out also when I had an i1D3 meter for a short time a few months back.

For you fierce, at around 20:00 minutes they talk about a blue filter and a blue TV mode.

awesome! now I just need to wait until that time of the day when I can actually pay attention for 90mins straight to watch it, haha.

You must be using a mac. Fullscreen on Windows Chrome just goes into "presentation mode" and you lose access to the menu bar and tabs. Really stupid decision.

Prices actually stayed the same or went up at the end of Panasonics run. I wouldn't expect any different from Samsung. I don't think the 64H5000 will budge from it's MSRP price of $1399 either.

No kidding, check the prices on the VT60/ZT60 now... they dipped at the end of last year then shot up.

Looky here!

I don't understand what you are trying to say. How is F11 your friend when it doesn't work properly with Chrome? You might as well save yourself the hassle and use FF or IE.

Whatever, it's a non-issue since I do most of my computing on my Vizio. I like Chrome. But when I'm on my plasma and I know I'm going to be on a page for a bit, I hit F11 because I don't really want to fire up another browser. I would never use a plasma as my all-day computer monitor. Like I said, that's why I'm looking forward to a VIzio P—I want that 4K desktop!

this laser tv is absolutely phenomenal. It was able to render the color red BETTER than the Pioneer Kuro. At the time this was HUGE considering this was pre-zt60 era. It was a really great tv to own. Unfortunately many owners had issues with screen convergence and misaligned borders etc....eventually it was discontinued.

Great tv tho

I figure OLED will be the same. Lets see what people are saying in a couple of years.

Damn, it looks like Sears had this set for $679 a few weeks ago. There was also 13% cashback and free shipping. Could have got this for $630 to my door.

You guys need to get yourself a Discover Card. They have a 90 day price protection on purchases. All you do is print out the advertised price from any retailer and they send you a check for the difference up to $500.

I just did that with my projector and got some money back from them. Easy as pie.

Yeah that is an incredible deal, where you have to just buy on the spot and not think twice. I am very pleased with my Samsung though, I haven't had a chance to mess around with the settings yet but I will have time tonight

OLED's issues are well known: longevity, especially concerning the rate at which the different color sub pixels age is the main obstacle, and low yields which is a problem that all new products/tech have as the processes to make something are perfected.

LG has somewhat 'solved' the sub pixel issue by not using the RGB OLED panel that Samsung is (was?) attempting to develop-- they use four white OLEDs with an R, G and B color filter over three of them. While not as elegant as the samsung solution the picture quality, especially as it relates to LCD, is mind blowing.

I'm not trying to be naive here, OLED has some growing pains and the tech as it relates to big screen TVs is certainly not out of the woods yet (if it were I'd sell my VT for roughly double what I paid for it -- the going price right now-- and buy the LG in a heartbeat), but I don't understand the negativity towards a tech that is better in arguably every single way than what you can buy today. OLED should be the future-- if it isn't that's a loss for all of us.

Yeah well the difference is SED never made it outside the prototype phase (but, man, was that auditor devoted or what?). When I walked into bestbuy last Christmas there were not one but TWO different makes of OLED that I could buy, like, right NOW. That's a pretty substantial difference.
It's apparent to me that a huge obstacle facing OLED is that, at the price they currently command, most consumers won't even have a chance to SEE them let alone afford them. As far as I know the only place that stocks the LG in my area is best buy-- and not the one up the road in my sleepy town but the one 20 miles up the highway that has a magnolia. It's hard to know what you're missing if you don't know what you're missing.

Microcenter in your neck of the woods has a helluva deal on one, but I thought you had a 65" VT60. Downgrading in size in the "great room" is unthinkable. Personally, infinite contrast ratio aside, I'm not ready to dump my ZT60 until something bigger comes along in OLED format. That's just around the corner, but the price has some ways to go before I ever hope to nab it.

If you can get to Madison Heights, MicroCenter has the LG 55EA9800 on display, and it's on sale for $2k.

I appreciate your reporting on your personal purchase of this Samsung F5300. I have this same model but I purchased mined From costco with a extended 5 year warranty. I built my home theater it seems around this TV or something comparable.

I do hope you post your calibration experience with this tv. My experience so far has not been optimal. Can't seem to adjust 10pt greyscale especially the 50-80 areas. It's not perfect but viewable.

Questions for owners of the 5300...I'm curious about the 'wide fit' option for aspect ratio. I know the purpose is to expand 4:3 programming to fit the 16:9 screen, but what I'm curious to know if if it's just a simple stretch, or does it do like Panasonic's 'just' mode and stretch the edges of the picture more leaving the center with minimal stretch? Thanks in advance for this info.

this laser tv is absolutely phenomenal.

What do you mean render red better? I thought if you can meet all the red designated Rec709 saturation points, it doesn't get any better with low dE's…
