Samsung pn60e530 Mediaplay thumbnail display?

im using a usb connected drive to play various video files

ive used various means to get a picture to display next to the file with no luck

searching google and i only come up with results from people either using a server or had the issue of thumbnails once showing up but have since stopped

my tv has never shown thumbnails
not even a screenshot

does anyone here know how to get these to work?

NTFS for the drive

as far as the video files
ive had
.mkv
.avi
.mp4
.m4v
.mpg
.wmv (which wont play)

none have ever produced a screenshot

once i loaded a few box cover .jpg's, renamed them to match the video file and dropped them in the same folder and still nothing

ive seen most people talk about the Mediaplayer choosing a thumbnail from a random screenshot in the file but i dont even get that. just the generic grey film roll

Not sure if it supports cover art. This question is probably better asked in the owners thread as others might know a solution if any is available.
