Thumbs down ZT60 stolen...now what

Ok guys, so among many other thing, my zt60 was stolen in a home burglary. Insurance is going to take care of me for the most part, but of course the zt doesnt really exist anymore except the suspect deals at 6500+ bucks from retailers I have never heard of.
so what do I get. I care about 1 thing, picture quality. That is it. OLED is not happening and I can't see buying a 4k yet...so does that just leave me the sammy 8500??? Anything else out there?

On a long enough time line the survival rate for everyone drops to zero

That totally sucks. I hate thieves!

If you have your heart set on another ZT60 I would look for one in the classified section of this site. The next best thing around is the F8500.

It's not that I don't like the LG OLED, BUT they only come in 55 inches (right?!?) and only come curved (right?!?)
So its more that I don't like what OLED has to offer....

I really really hate this. I loved that zt more than my son...and he is pretty damn aces.

I stay away from classifieds on forums...
most of you guys are great and I know the odds are good that I wouldn't get screwed, but I am a little cautious nowadays....
And I don't use paypal ever.
So it looks like I am settling for second best...like I did in my marriage.

In October a 65" and a 77" OLED are coming, if you can wait that long (yes, they're also curved...but it's worth a trial at least; I didn't want a curve either but now that I have a set with one, it's inconsequential). Granted, I would never buy an LCD with a curve because it adds absolutely nothing.

Well, I originally heard September for the US. Nothing's set in stone. It's just that the most recent date I've heard (which is actually the expected release date in the UK) is October. If the 77" manages to appear at the Value Electronics shootout next month, there's a good chance they'll arrive for September.

Quite frankly in this sort of price range you can't do better now panasonic plasmas are no more. Sorry to hear the op was robbed, but at least he can still get q quality plasma before they are all gone.

Getting ripped off like that must really suck.

I've often wondered why
  1. They don't encode the serial number into a part of the firmware that updates don't modify (and for all I know, they do).
  2. Have a "report your stolen TV" service.
  3. When whomever ends up with the TV plugs it into the Internet, they get the IP address where the stolen TV is located.
  4. They do a WHOIS lookup of the IP address, and simply turn the whole matter over to local law enforcement to follow though on tracing the IP address to a physical address, and paying a visit to the new "owner" of the TV.

Samsung 8500 on sale last I saw. Then wait and see what happens with OLED. With high quality plasmas going away I would bet that if you wanted to upgrade to OLED in the not too distant future you could move it on the used market without too big a hit (maybe none if you get a good price).

Sorry this happened.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I'm sure your police have already notified local pawn shops about the stolen items. Watch on craiglists for tv's for sale. You just might catch the thief. I used an engraving pen to etch my initials on back of tv in an inconspicuous spot in case it ever was stolen.

If you are in the Northern Indiana, Northern Ohio or Michigan area

I think just about every ABC Warehouse has them still in stock

granted....80-90% of them are open boxes...but that is what you had stolen anyway and even an open box model would start the warranty from the day you bought it

Most are selling the 65" ZT60 for $2199
and they will listen to an offer ...that has been my experience anyway in dealing with them

Ouch!

Well, the 8500 isn't really a 2nd choice. It has it's own strength. I'd get the 8500 if OLED aint for you now.

I love disposable income... If it were me I would be checking all the pawn shops in your area and obviously craigslist and ebay. Most likely its sitting at a pawn shop and thats a rare tv. So it wont come with the remote or anything. It will be the tv only. What is a common crook gonna do with a huge tv? Sell ASAP. They dont even know what they have. They just go to a pawn shop and sell it.

I would suggest looking at the new Pana flagship 4K LED AX900.
It is not out yet, but Panasonic is trying to compete with it's own ZT series with this TV.

Sucks that your TV got stolen, man. From the sound of it, it had to have been premeditated by someone who's been in your house before. Most B&E's don't usually go for large heavy items...mainly small electronics they can swipe and sell easily. My house was broken into a few months ago, and they took an Apple TV, my girlfriend's laptop, and a jar of silver change - VT60 was untouched. Had to have been multiple people with a truck/van who knew you owned the TV. A heavy plasma isn't exactly something you can just carry out the door under your arm.

Robert Zohn from Value Electronics has one 65VT60 left as a few days ago. Maybe Cleveland AV has one.

It's a TV, and from the sounds of it, you would have upgraded to the latest and greatest in a few years anyway. For now, you get a new TV and a bunch or other new stuff for the price of an insurance deductible. Enjoy your f8500 or, better yet, spend some time with your wife and son. Yeesh...

My family life is none of your business, and I didn't want new stuff, I wanted the stuff I bought before it was stolen. That is why I bought it. I'm not sure how, from a few posts on the internet, you summarized so much information about me. Regardless...your post was neither helpful or relevant.

I think the TV use dynamic IP address so it automatically change ,but the mac address is unique to each device.

Unfortunately even with a mac and IP address on hand is not easy as people think, I hope it goes to a pawn shop this is an easier way.

Panasonic 65VT60 / Marantz SR7005 / Marantz UD7007 /PSA XS30 /Revel Performa3 F206 / Revel Performa3 C205 / Revel Surrounds/Sonos Connect/ Roku 3 / Amazon Fire tv / Xbox One / HTPC / Darbee 5000 /Sonos play:1 for bedrooms,kitchen,bathroom/Master bedroom Sonos sound bar/Sonos sub and Sonos play 1 surrounds.

LG's new OLED on sale isn't curved as long as if you mind sitting closer to your TV since it's smaller than you wanted it. It will have even better image quality then a ZT60 if you don't mind the screen size.

Did the cops do any fingerprints? Anyone recently that you told in person about you having a really nice tv? Any recent visitors to your home lately that you think may have stolen it? Did you post that you had the tv online recently. if so maybe someone local saw they were near your city used google images got your name and address through a search and took it. I had my old house broken into a few times. Once my basement door was kicked in and window smashed. Once I was coming back from vacation as a kid and woke up to my bedroom door wide open in the cold. I had my bicycle stolen from the new house a year ago. Someone tried to break into the car once, but were caught. Old car got broken into few years ago in Florida subwoofer and amp still in it trunk open. Keys money and my wallet is all that was taken. I am suprised they didn't want the car stereo. Maybe one of your neighbors saw someone suspicious in your neighborhood. You could ask. I would try to get prints if the cops will do it

COST! They have already stripped out lots of things off TVs to get price down.
