samsung pn64f5500 or pn64h5000

I have two options for the same $1150.00 price. I do not notice the pentile screen on the 64h5000 and it is new and picture is great . The 64f5500 has about 20 hours on it and its picture looks great also. Not sure if I would use the 3D much and I have a apple TV for internet connectivity. Any opinions?

I'd stick with the F5500 since it has 3d and smart features.

The H5000 pros

- superior black level to the F5500 (The H5000 actually rivals the F8500)
- Better input lag
- Better calibration options

The H5000 cons

- Pentile
- No 3D
- Skimpy Smart TV

Both are reflective, so keep that in mind.

If I was making this choice, I would pick the H5000 in a heartbeat. The F5500 doesn't really interest me as I'm currently using the Panasonic S60 and I also picked this TV over the F5500/F5300 precisely because of black level. PQ vs. features, your choice.

This is good to know as I have a 42 inch Panasonic S60 in the house that I am satisfied with as a second TV.

Do you any issues with the Pentile display?

Haven't really owned one (OLED phones don't count) but did see the 60 inch F5300/F5500. While I could pick out its unique honeycomb pattern, they were pretty ok as long as I keep my viewing distance. My number one PQ importance is contrast ratio, so I'm willing to satisfy pixels. One of my largest beef with my current S64 is ABL, so the H5000's 25% improvement in ABL/brightness will also come in handy. One person who owns both has said the H5000's only slightly worse than the S60 in black level, which is very, very, good.

Thank you for the information. I checked out the 60 inch F5300 at Sears. I only noticed the pixels at closer than 3 to 4 foot from the screen. At my normal viewing distance of about 9 to 10 feet I did not notice it"
After seeing the pentile screen I pulled the trigger on the 64H5000 after that from Sears. Should be delivered in a week.

If you trust that HDTVtest review, the H5000 should have better blacks than the S60. They measured .0016fL on the H5000, and I've seen the S60 measure around .003-.004fL.

You have to realize that figure is with Black Optimizer on. The H5000 is still said to be having ANSI fluctuation, but is said to be much less than either the F5300 and the F8500. Now, I've had TWO people who have owned both the H5000 and the F8500 and both accounts the H5000 having less black fluctuations than the F8500. The first person has said the difference was like night and day, the second person has said it was more subtle, but still obvious. So, I'm not going to be surprised in the end, it's around similiar ballpark as the S60 which is still going to make me more than happy as what I really wanted from my S60 upgrade was equal black level with improved ABL which the H5000 has become. Of course, ANSI fluctuation measurement by the experts is much welcome and I really hope the H5000 participate in the VE shootout.
