Is the PN60F5300 pentile? plz need answer.

Hey everyone I'm new to the site and I'm in need of help.. I have one day left to place an order on a samsung plasma set. I was thinking of getting the F5300 60 inch but I hear that size of panel is pentile.. is this true... thanks in advance.

Why? In the variious pentile discussions wasn't it determined that it's not an issue at normal viewing distances? Are you sure it would be a problem for you at your viewing distance? Others have said it is not.

I watch a 60F5300 from 8' away and it's clearer than the 5 year old 50" Panasonic plasma it replaced. It would be stupid IMO to get the 51" when the 60" is barely any more expensive. There is a big price jump from 60" to 64" but almost nothing between 51" and 60".

so you guys are basically saying that at 9 feet the 60 is a better choice, and picture clarity wise it will be the same as the non PenTile 51''?

Those guys are saying it in terms of movie contents. For games, pentile will be more troublesome, I would also grudgingly recommend the 51 inch one if the 64 inch one is too expensive for you. I'm personally going to buy a pentile display (Samsung H5000) myself though. (Ironic, yes) Happy with the current Panasonic S60 plasma, but I want to go brighter. Games can always use less aggressive ABL.

Ugh. Tough call.

At seven feet, I can easily see the pentile effects, and they drive me batty. When I was in store, I was watching ESPN, and one place it was really visible was the edge of white lettering on the screen. So small text, like the left column showing what topics are coming up on SC, or scores, showed the effect. Instead of a smooth(ish) edge to the letters, it was a bit jagged, sort of like the edge of a postage stamp.

Would you see it at 9 feet? Tough to say. That is beyond ideal viewing distance anyway, and for gaming I like to be even closer. Note that Samsung is careful to not say it isn't visible at suggested (THX sort of suggested) viewing distances - they always say 'typical' distances, which tend to be huge in America for various reasons.

Would the picture be better than a 51" at that distance? It will be a lot bigger, at least. I would probably go with the 60, myself. Can you find one in a store?

Can you swing the 64"? How about a used 64" or a used 65" panny off of craigslist?

Good luck

At that distance get the 64". It's a non-Pentile.

Thanks for all the feed back guys I really appreciate it, I'm ordering this TV through my work at the Brick.. the two size options are 51'' and 60'' inch models.. I live in a small city in Canada so it's much harder to get good tv's here that wont cost an arm and a leg, but maybe the 51 inch wont be so bad.. going from a 40 inch to 51 will be a difference, but 60 just sounds beasty

I think what you are just seeing is poor upscaling by the tv and/or the stores feed. I have some 720p ESPN content that I play with madVR, and when using NNEDI3 upscaling text looks nearly perfect, with bicubic or lanczos it is jagged.

Xbone, get the 60" or you'll be kicking yourself. I game some on it and it looks awesome. I upgraded from a 50" to 60" and the size difference is huge.

Possible, I suppose, but I am not sure it matters.

What I can tell you is that the same text on televisions next to it, including a 51" plasma, were not at all jagged.

So it would need to be an combination of a certain upscaling algorithm along with the Pentile display.

In any case, it means there is source material that 'shows off' or 'exposes' the weakness of the Pentile display. Whether you see it in day-to-day use would be a matter of the source material.

And don't forget, I was viewing the 60" from five to seven feet. If you are seeing it from further back, the difference is (literally) too small to see.

I have the 60F5500, which is also pentile, and let me assure you it is not noticeable in the very least. Maybe once you get to about 3' away you can see it. But we sit 9' away on the couch, and the picture is razor sharp. If you're paranoid about it you can probably convince yourself it's noticeable (as evidenced in this thread), but if you forget it, you can't see it whatsoever.

As I'm considering this set, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Especially as it relates to blu ray and gaming. Also, where did you get it?

I have a ZT and a dreaded pentile 60F5300. It is really not a big deal.... i have hooked the TVs up to the same source simultaneously before.

As everyone reasonable states, once you are 4'+ back you cant see the pixel structure well.

Bought the 60F6300 specifically for gaming. The ZT's one and only weakness is IR and I use that for TV/movies/gaming. The Samsung seems lovely for gaming so far. Played Destiny beta on it and lots of Borderlands 2. The diff between the two sets is black level and color depth. The colors are much deeper on the ZT.

I played color slides for 200 hours and then started gaming. Not even a slight trace of IR to be found. Even if there was, I'd not care. The TV gives so much for the money.

What about input lag? Noticeable? Thanks for the response!

I think the F5300 has slightly higher input lag, but I seen input lag as low as 38 on the f5500 on display input sites.

Of course the 51" looked sharper right next to it. The pixel density is much higher on the smaller set.

seems to be good to me. I put it in game mode and I don't notice anything especially delayed. I don't look for issues and I have not had any glaring problems with it.

I am both a PC and console gamer. PC is hooked up to a PC monitor not a TV. PS3 and PS4 hooked to plasma. Considered a Sony W800 but I'm just too hooked on plasmas value for the $$.
