Good Deal for Used KRP-500M?

Guys,

I can get a used KRP-500M that is about 3 years old and has the speakers, stand, ISF night and day patch and ISF calibration for around $1100. Do you think that is a good deal? Seems like it to me, but I wanted to check.

The only thing I don't know is the number of hours, but the owner says he only watched it for a few hours at night, nothing more in the time he has had it.

Thanks,

Y2J

Ask him if had the fans on MAX all the time. Sounds like a good deal.. if the hours are low.

Can't you hook up the 500M through a computer and find out how many hours your 500M has on it... on the Pioneer web site?

What would we consider low hours?

I have a PDP-LX5090 with 13,000 hours on it, near OLED black levels. Only thing to be aware of is red tint issue - can be fixed though if you get it.

You don't see the best out these Pioneers until they have over 10,000 hours on them I bet my "special" tweak out 500M can MATCH OLED's black level!..

There is a member on AV forums that has both a tweaked Pioneer Plasma and a LG OLED,side by side , he reports the black levels to be about the same ,that has been my experience also , you can tweak at least some of the 50" 9G Pioneer to OLED black levels .

Well I picked it up. About 4,500 hours on it. The Pure calibration was way off...They had the Y in the CMS settings cranked up to 15...I am sure the ISF modes are messed up as well. Will check them tonight, couldn't get ControlCal going last night. I think I have the reddish black issue, but I don't see this during black content in movies, tested with The Dark Knight Rises, but when the screen is completely black it may have a slight tint of red. I have read that I shouldn't do this "master reset". D-Nice specifically said not to in a thread I was reading. For some reason, I think my KRP-600M might look better, but it is upstairs. The difference in black between the used KRP-500M and the 65X950B is pretty crazy when they are side by side with the same content, although I am almost positive the panel in the 65X950B is defective.

Let us know what you think after it has over 10,000 hours on it...
