58C8000 to 64F8500 Worth the upgrade?

I'm seriously considering upgrading my display from my Samsung PN58C8000 to a Samsung PN64F8500. I'm really happy with my current display and I'm excited to think that the PQ can be even better with the F8500!

Best Buy has the Samsung PN64F8500 for $2,499.98. No Tax or Shipping charges here in Alaska so that is a plus.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-...&skuId=8244057

I plan on waiting for 4K to mature and improve. I hope OLED performs as we all expect in the near future. In the mean time should I upgrade my plasma while I wait 3-5 years?

Good luck with that purchase from Best Buy. They will show in stock, take your order and process it and a few days later your order is either cancelled or they call you to tell you they can't get your TV from the manufacturer. This TV has been discontinued as of last month.

That's exactly what they did to me. I was scheduled for a "confirmed delivery" today and they pushed it to the 10th and then 30 minutes later to the 15th. And they charged me two weeks ago.

I'm keeping the order active (though I have no confidence that it will be filled) until I can find it from another vendor.

I Will be trying the same thing tomorrow. I am returning my 3rd LCD due to various reasons, flashlighting, bad upscaling and even a panel that was not glued along the bottom. BB salesperson told me today I could order and it would be ready the 15th. The website tells different stories constantly. Who knows? For me it's worth a try because my next LCD will be a cheap sucker that I won't mind how bad the TV is.

Stick with the display you are happy with. It's a good display.

Thanks. I was able to place an order with Amazon this morning (and placed an additional order for the 60" as a backup in case the 64" doesn't materialize). The delivery date is a couple a days before Best Buy's new "guaranteed" delivery date, so I'm not planning to cancel that unless the Amazon order shows up.

Oddly, I purchased from Best Buy after canceling my original Amazon order precisely because I wanted a local presence in case something went wrong. At this point, I have much more confidence in Amazon coming through than I do with Best Buy.

By the way, Amazon seems to have all sizes in stock at the moment (1:22pm PST) in case anyone is still trying to find one.

I was on Amazon.com before you posted this and I had (2) 64"s in my cart. That very second they sold out!!

I was able to purchase (2) 60" with the 5-year warranty for $150 more. You can get a 51" and a 60" for the price of one (1) 64"!! Get on now only (15) 60"s left as I type this!!!! Good Luck, the site was at a CRAWL during the checkout process!

drvasek – I think the 60" is the better value of the three sizes. I've been tempted to go that route over the 64" (and save the $1000). The only two issues that pushed me to the 64" are (i) more user reporting of buzzing on the 60" vs the 64" and (ii) since this is the last plasma I'll be able to buy, I opted to get the largest available. We have a 2010 Panasonic 54" that's been a rock.

But I'd likely be just as happy with the 60" and an extra $1K in my pocket ;-)

Truly, you can't go wrong either way. If I would have purchased sooner this morning I would have picked up a 64" I would pay for a 64" right now even though 4" less is $1,000 cheaper. Since I can't find the 64" anywhere (and have been looking for a couple of weeks) I will have to settle for the next best thing. I'm sure I won't be disappointed with the 60" but I sure do wish I could have the 64" since it as, as you said, the last plasma I will buy.

Not sure if it's too late for you, but if you still want to try for the 64" I asked the guy that runs nowinstock.com to add it to the Samsung inventory tracker yesterday. I got immediate texts when the 51", 60" and 64" went in stock today – in that order – and was immediately able to get my orders for the 64" and 60" in.

May be worth the hassle to push your 60" delivery date back and see if you can snag the 64" using nowinstock.com.

All (3) sizes show out of stock right now. Are you saying there is a chance that more will come in stock at Amazon.com or other sites and then the alerts will go off? Do you think there are more tvs out there somewhere?

I don't know. I wasn't sure that Amazon was getting any more in today. But it probably wouldn't hurt to sign up for a text notification if they do.

Roger that I just created an account. Looks like a useful site.

Thanks!

It is. I've used it a lot in the past for hard-to-find items this time of year (like the original Wii). Works every time :-) But be sure to sign up for text alerts.

EDIT in Orange

Thanks for the post Warren. After reading many of the positive reviews from both personal owners and professionals [on other websites] I was confident that it would be an upgrade and [I wanted to hear what all you guys on this site thought] compared to my 58C8000 especially since this is, sadly, Samsung's last plasma. I think I will be very happy with this until the right 4k OLED comes around at the right price, hopefully 3-5 years.

I had the same experience yesterday at BB - shows in stock, then "unavailable" when trying to check out. Called them and they said "it's out of stock". THEN UPDATE YOUR SITE FFS!

I can't find the 60 or 64 F8500 on amazon. Do you still see it there? Want to pull the trigger today but am really frustrated can't find it.

Earlier today about 12pm Alaska time (4pm Eastern) Amazon.com had all three sizes in stock in limited quantities. I don't know what time Amazon posted them on their site but they lasted about 30 minutes after I saw them. I lucky enough to grab (2) 60" models for my brother and I.

I have been searching for weeks and it has been very frustrating. I'm lucky to have at least lock down a 60". We would both prefer 64" but I'm not sure how many that are left out there. I don't know if Amazon.com will get more or if any other site will or not. Worth a phone call to Amazon.com to ask about their future inventory, see if they are able to order more.

I only have myself to blame. I was at Bestbuy about 6 weeks ago and the guy said they had about 68 of them in their warehouse and at the time I just wasn't sure and I passed. Now, here I am.
