Unhappy dead HDMI ports on Panasonic TH 50PX77U

Bought a Panasonic TH 50PX77U in 2007 and it has held up great over the years. Following a nearby lightning strike yesterday the TV still powers up, but I am unable to get signal from the HDMI ports (haven't tried the other ports yet). My questions are:

  • Can I repair this myself? i.e., open the TV, swap out some board, presto!
  • The TV was plugged into an APC UPS with a number of other devices, but the TV was the only thing that was apparently damaged. Any idea why?
  • I have renter's insurance - is it worth pursing a claim?

To answer my question about renter's insurance: no, it is not worth pursing a claim. My deductible is $500 - there is no way a 50" 720p plasma from 2007 is worth that much.

To bring this full circle, I found someone on eBay who repairs these boards (TNPH0692) for about $100. Just installed the repaired board yesterday and the HDMI inputs are working again!

Nice job, way to revive a TV! My newly acquired VT30 also has issues with the HDMI ports (which I fully knew about before buying) so I am going to pull the A board and have ModuslinkPTS fix it.
