hey, guys...[1st timer]

we've been looking into buying now for a few months.
which means...we've been reading the forums (and learning) now for just as long...
thanks for everything...
now...i know that my questions have been asked several times...
but, i suppose i just need to ask my own way to better understand the responses...

here they are:

1. since the 2 most abundant ports available on graphics cards are vga/dvi...is this the best way to hook up to pc? meaning, that the best way [all the way around in terms of pq, ease and availability] will be the 600?

2. both the 42's [60 and 600] have internal tuners, correct?

3. a cable card (available only on the 42 600 model) delivers better pq than NOT having a cable card, correct?

4. one last time, w/ feeling: w/ cable card you're giving up interactivity [on demand features, etc] with the cable company, correct?

trying to decide 42 60vs600.

thanks sooooooooooooooooooooo much everyone...
greatly appreciated!!

Is Best Buy charging the real MSRP on the 50"? I don't need specifics, just a yes or no would be helpful.

Press release; Rodney Chan, DigiTimes.com [Thursday 9 March 2006]

Panasonic, the brand name of Matsushita Electric Industrial, on March 8 unveiled four models in its PX600 Viera series of high-definition widescreen plasma TVs.

The 50-inch TH-50PX600, 42-inch TH-42PX600 and 37-inch TH-37PX600 will be available in the Japan market on April 15, followed by the 58-inch 58PX600 on May 1, according to the company.

The Viera HDTVs incorporate Panasonic's new PEAKS (Picture Enhancement Accelerator with Kinetic System) Panel, new Deep Black Filter and upgraded Real Black Drive System, the company said, adding the TVs offer a 4,000:1 (10,000:1 contrast at maximum) in dark surroundings.

The new Viera HDTVs utilize 16-bit signal processing, displaying 50% more shades of gradation than the previous PX500 series, the company claims.

The new models offer the Viera Link, a single remote control solution for operation of home-theater components, it indicated.

"Our new plasma HDTVs offer excellent picture quality that has come to be expected for Panasonic TVs by discerning consumers," said Mr. Shunzo Ushimaru, director of the Corporate Marketing Division for Panasonic in Japan. "The Viera Link makes home-theater entertainment pure fun and enjoyable. The new HDTVs also inherit connectivity with other audio-visual devices via SD Memory Cards."

Anyone know about the first year warranty and if it includes in home service for these units purchased directly form Panasonic?

Also, any opinions as to the Panasonic Wall Mounts being sold on ebay for quite a bit less than online vendors prices? From their descriptions they seem like a reasonable choice.

If you are a Club Panasonic member (and who wouldn't be, if you are purchasing from them, directly?), they say on their web site that they give 2-day in-home service on trouble calls. Right now, it only lists the 50/500 series as being eligible, but I would imagine that is because they haven't updated to include the 60s (and eventually 600s).

Just got off the phone with panasonic. Here are the measurements I was given for the 50" 600U

W: 49.8
H: 31.6
D: 5.4

These are slightly different from the Italian pdf, but smaller than the 500U.

I was told May/June for these.

Thank you to everyone for the advice and detective work.

Is the TH-37PX600U a sure thing for State side ?
I tried to "Google-it" and came up empty, however if someone would post the overall width of the 42" , I would be most grateful !
Thanks,
Gary

on the news clip I posted above; these models are just starting to hit the japanense market in mid april, I don't know how many markets they would enter at once; guessing I would say these are the fall models for u.s. market, hope I'm wrong. Mike

I can't seem to find the dimensions of the actual viewable area for the 42" and 50" units.
Is the 42 something like 36" wide and 20" high? Who knew math would come in handy in the real world?
TH-42PX60U
TH-50PX60U

Can you help?

Has everyone received their email notification from Panasonic on your orders that were placed today... I have not received mine yet and hate to think something may not have gone through. I guess I will have to wait till Monday to call them back......

I didn't get mine and I ordered today around 8:30 AM. The CSR I talked to said he had a large stack of orders he had to go through and that he was going to try to get the email notifications sent out after lunch. I think they were swamped with orders today.

I stopped by Best Buy's flagship store in San Francisco tonight, hoping to see a 60U but all they had was a 50" 500U open box. Nevertheless, even so that's an awesome looking set, albeit way overpriced at this point. Man, I do want to see the 50" 600U! I sincerely hope this isn't going to be a June thing. I expect to be calling Panasonic Direct first thing on the 22nd. Damn!!!

Since a picture is worth 1000 words (original pic taken from BruZZi's great site):

That measurement is a hair short of 8", let call it 7 7/8".
