I am guessing that the regular Pio would require the ISF calibration to be applied to the "user" setting.

I'm wondering how the ISF feature is considered useful to the owner. I assume the consumer pays more for that option. It seems almost useless if I have to pay a serviceman to calibrate the display anyways. Sure, it makes it easier for the serviceman, but I could care less about him. The charge is the same, is it not? I end up paying more, for an option I can't use. Now if the instructions showed me how to access the ISF mode and do my own calibration, that's another story.

The idea is that you don't have to waste one of your picture presets on the ISF calibration - that you can keep it separate in case some things look better on the other settings. Also, I believe ISF calibration is what gives access to the day/night mode.

I love HD...and I hated that Anti-Consumer format war.

Now that we can move on... Blu-ray > Digital Downloads!

The pdp-4270 and 5070 are available to order at best buy. Delivery dates are around the 21st of June and retail(MSRP) at 3500 and 5000, respectively.

I was in BB today asking about the 7G Pios. Was told there is nothing in the system re 4271 and 5071. However, the 4361 and the 5061 are [EDIT] scheduled to stay active until 6/18. The salesman guessed that may be the arrival date for the new Pios. Anyone have different info?

[EDIT]

More importantly, I'm worried about SD PQ. Have heard Pios and Fujits are only good plasmas to display SD. Most of our viewing is still SD, so I don't want to drop a bunch of $$ on a TV with bad PQ on many of the shows we watch.

New to the forum. Appreciate all advice!

Is the PRO-1130HD worth the extra money, or should I get the PDP-5061 while they last. Or... wait for the 5071???

Should be coming out some time in June if you believe Pioneer's previous statements. Just google the model #, and you'll get more particulars. BTW, this is the smallest 1080p Plasma that was shown at CES.

It would make perfect sense for Pioneer to release its new BluRay DVD Player at the same time as the PRO-FHD1, but who knows. For me, this 1080p 50"er IS THE NEXT GENERATION Pioneer. I already own a HD-Lite TV, and when I upgrade it definitely will be to a real deal 1080p display...even if I have to move the sofa a few feet forward to fully enjoy its 1980x1080 rez!

BTW: On Pioneer's site, the MSRP is $10,000 US, so it's anybody's guess on the eventual street price for the PRO-FHD1.

Unless you sit 9 feet or closer you risk wasting a bunch of money getting the FHD-1. You also risk higher picture noise and lesser overall light output compared to the 768p version. I would recommend you shop very carefully and I would say it's mandatory to see this display before buying.

Approximate "watershed" screen size/ viewing distances for 720p/768p vs. 1080p screen resolution:

32 inches 6 feet
37 inches 7 feet
42 inches 8 feet
50 inches 9 feet
55 inches 10 feet
60 inches 11 feet
65 inches 12 feet
103 inches 18 feet

These are conservative estimates which are probably somewhat biased towards getting a 1080p screen. As long as you will sit further away or have a smaller screen at the size/distance specified, you are fine with 720p/768p. If you are on the watershed, consider a 1080p screen. If you are significantly larger/closer, you ideally need a 1080p screen

cpcat, I ain't buy'in what you're selling. I've seen 1080p in action and this is the ticket. Maybe the lower rez TV's are OK for someone upgrading from an older analog 27" Tube, but for those that already own a HDTV and wanting to upgrade, 1080p is the way to go. Granted, we are only JUST beginning this 1080p Plasma journey as the very first displays will be coming out in 60-90 days, but we'll see if this time next year whether you'll be promoting those lower rez HD-lite TV's.

MSRP is allowed!

It was stated that your previous post included pricing. If it was MSRP it should have stated that it was.

The prices that were removed WERE NOT MSRP. I didn't edit or delete anything you wrote. Had you stayed out of it, you would never have become involved. Best thing for you to do is participate in the thread and stay out of things that do not concern you.

That's the #1 rule here - no prices except MSRP. The mods must be tired of hammering it home to all the newbies.

Really, that is not the case. I enjoy new members, they are actually some of the more enthusiastic members, since they've just found this site.

However, as you can see, this entire page is now trashed because someone chose to challenge moderator action. For one lousy edited post, no less.

Let's try and get back on topic fellas.

This may have me deciding between the 50" Pioneer and the 58" Panny. I would go for the extra inches, except it may be too much for my 8 feet of viewing distance.

Sorry if I broke a rule - it wasn't intentional. I was simply commenting on what BB was selling the TVs for yesterday, and posing the question of whether that deal was so good that I should take it rather than waiting for the new Pios coming next month.
