pioneer 5070 or 71, I personally think the panasonis 600 and 60 pq is subpar even to the samsung, can't comment on the lg.
oh check out the nec 50xr5 in the nec tread, I think one of the forum sponsor is having a avs special buy, I have one and love it.
good luck

I have been struggling with the same thought. I came to the realization this weekend that by the time 1080p is widely available there will also likely be a better display technology and/or huge improvement in plasma/lcd technology of today. So no matter what I'll want to upgrade in 3-5 years. Buying a TV is rapidly becoming similar to buying a computer where the technology improves every quarter or so.

The advice I gave to myself was to buy a TV today that I love but to be mindful that new tech is right around the corner so don't spend so much that I can justify going through this process again in a few years. If I spend 5k on a TV today I better stick with it for the next 7-10 years. Or I can spend 2500 every 3-5 years. Buy what looks good to you. I personally like the panasonics. Just make sure to get it calibrated correctly.

Thanks for the comments, Stupid question, are the pioneer pdp-5070HD and the pdp-5071 exactly the same. I think im leaning towards the pioneer 5071 because its on sale at Bestbuy and i have a 12% coupon, so it kinda gets me closer to the less expencisive panasonic and samsung within about 500.00, and if anyone owns the 5071, was curious on how the glare is.

Yes, they are exactly the same, by adding the 1 bestbuy doesn't have to price match anybody else on lower pricing.

Bestbuy told me that my 12% coupon could only be used off the normal price, not the sale price.

If you think this post was dumb, you really should read my blog=> http://bumpedhishead.blogspot.com/

I am not sure if that is the right phrase, the bottom line is you do get what you pay for unless you study, and study and find a good deal.

Any way I vote for the Pioneer 5070 or the 50PX600U, but as noted look into the
NEC PX-50XR5A, More info HERE and HERE and reviews HERE.

NEC Plasmas are the best kept secret in the AV forum.

Lots of juvenile Panasonic fanboys waiting on back-orders due to ignorance :D

GO NEC ;)

Well i decided to try the pioneer, BB had one in stock so i picked it up and Billy Bob they gave me the sale price and the 12% off, which made it a good deal with the reward dollars too. Im just hoping that i dont have any major glare issues because it turned out to be a decent deal and i havent tried plasma before, ( so im hoping i want have to return it.)
