I was just looking over Panasonic's offerings and they're all either 1024x720 or other rectangular pixeled resolutions at 42". Anyone else make a 1280x720 or 1366x768 42 inch plasma?

Hmm I'm no geometry whiz but how is 1280x720 or 1366x768 any more square than 1024x768?

The Hitachi 42" is 1024x1080 vs. the 1024x768 standard across the board for 42" glass. Make sure you research this TV thoroughly, it's not without its detractors and issues, namely black levels not being quite low enough for some and low-light scene "flickering". The flickering has been resolved on the 55" Alis panel so perhaps they'll get the 42" fixed at some point.

In response to the above post, keep in mind the aspect ratios of these TVs. 1280 X 720 perfectly covers 16 by 9 in square pixels, 1024 x 768 (a 4 by 3 ratio if using square pixels) must use rectangular pixels to cover the 16 by 9 ratio.

Additionally, does the 55" Hitachi use Alis??? I thought it was regular 1366 x 768.

Current Equipment:
Panasonic TC-P42G25
Logitech Z680 5.1
Xbox 360
PS3
Gaming PC (Core i7 2600, GeForce 670, 16 GB RAM)

Well, isn't 1366 x 768 also not perfectly square? I mean, the aspect ratio isn't *exactly* 16:9 on a set with this resolution. Or is it that the pixels are in fact square but the set isn't *exactly* 16:9?

Oh, and to answer the original question, I've never seen a 42" plasma with square pixels. There may be some, but I've never heard of it before. Really, it would be so much easier if all 720p panels has a 1280 x 720 resolution...

Splitting hairs there. 1366 / 768 = 1.7786458333333333333333333333333

16 / 9 = 1.777777777777777777777777777777

The difference is all of 0.048%. Close enough to a plasma owner.

Yeah, I knew I was, but I still felt like mentioning it. I still don't really like not having a 1280 x 720 native resolution plasma or LCD. :)

Did you guys even read my post? Panasonic's 42" are rectangular at 1024x720 no one said anything about 1280x720 being rectangular.

And Panasonic's 42" is 1024 x 768, by the way. Only their 37" is 1024 x 720.

EDIT: Spelling
