Anyone know of any planned release of a 42" Plasma with 1080p and HDMI 1.3? I am strongly considering the HD-XA2 and want the best set that I can fit in my 41" wide cabinet. I have done a lot of searching, but can only seem to find sets that are 50" or larger.

TIA for any help.

Rob

there will not be any 42 inch 1080p plasmas. the pixels are simply too small and the mfrs wont pour the money into trying to make them feasible. if you want 1080p, youre going to have to go 50 inch or above.

Or settle for LCD.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I will have to compare some 720p Plasmas with the few 1080p LCDs and see which picture I like better. The problem is that I never know how the display is setup in the showrooms.

That explains why I have not been able to find any!

Just going through some old posts and realized that I forgot to update this one. I wound up getting the Panasonic TH-42PZ80U. It is a 42" Plasma that supports 1080p and it is absolutely awesome. I don't know if they are still being produced, but if anything happened to mine I would look for an exact replacement.

I like the guy who asserted that "there will not be any 42" 1080p Plasmas....", especially considering that a month after he posted that, Panasonic announced their first 1080p 42" Plasma (the TH-42PZ700U which i bought a few months later and is still going strong today). They also released a few more 42" 1080p models that year (42PZ77U and 42PE77U).

Your 2008 42PZ80U was a big improvement over the 2007 42PZ700U - it had better black levels and was a lot brighter and to this day still has pretty good picture quality compared to their newer versions. My next door neighbor has one (i set it up for her 4 years ago) and i told her if she ever decides to sell it to let me know. Hang onto yours because as of now there are no more 42" 1080p models being made - Panasonic just discontinued their new 42" UT50 a month after releasing it due to lack of interest from retailers, so this marks the end of the 42" 1080p Plasma era. It ended exactly 5 years after it began. The last good 42" 1080p Plasma was last year's ST30 series but it discontinued and there are probably no more left.
