What is "Direct Input 1080p"? (Re: Panasonic 50PX600U) - AVS Forum

I was just wondering what this meant, considering the resolution of the 600U is only 1366 x 768. Crutchfield's spec sheet described this as being able to accept signals up to 1080p via the HDMI inputs. I'm assuming this doesn't mean that the TV can display 1080p content in actual 1080p.

Can you tell I'm new to all this?
