Well the black flyer that came from Pioneer said May 7th till May 9th for the press conference. So maybe May 7th is just the arriving day but I doubt that. Lets see and wait what happens.

BluRays: 11 (last: Cars & Ratatouille)

I just spoke to Jaed Arzadon in Pioneer Electronics Communications (USA) and he told me that Pioneer should be issuing a press release on Wednesday that contains details on the new 8G plasmas.

He said that Christina Ramirez is currently working on the press release as we speak.

Hehe, I was also on Pioneer's press page yesterday and was thinking about calling their PR number. Good work though. I'm hoping that maybe an Italian website will post some more info prior to the press release.

The search is on!

Pioneer launches 8G plasmas
Part of Vision strategy, Blu-ray player debuts too

Pioneer has launched three brand new plasma TVs today. These are the long-awaited 8G sets the company first teased us with in January .

The three models are the 60-inch PDP-LX608D, 50-inch PDP-5080HD, and 42-inch PDP-428XD. They form the backbone of a new up-market range from Pioneer dubbed Vision. Pioneer's Vision range comprised "premium, high-priced products for discerning entertainment junkies," a Pioneer spokesman told Tech.co.uk

The Vision line-up also includes the company's first Euro-centric Blu-ray player, the BDP-LX70 and a hard disk hi-fi system called the LX01. It has also launched a new home cinema receiver dubbed the VSX-LX50.

The Vision launch is currently ongoing, so we'll be sure you bring you more details and pictures as soon as we have them.

----

So the launch is happening today, now it's just a matter of hours before we have all the info and pictures!

PS. There's a link to an info page for the PDP-5080HD on Pioneer's site, but it's empty for now: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...166926,00.html

Yep, high early adopter pricing will be the norm for about 5-6 months. IMHO

Oh yes, they look good...

But, no MSRP announced, so for sure, it will not be low because they would have said it in the conference as one key selling point....

Plus available in september (could be end september), leaving the Panny with a 4-5 month leave... For sure, if price are nice, I would hold on, but if price are too high compared to the panny or other brand (like if they get close to the fujitsu with their 1080p, I would probably go with another brand for a few years then switching it after a couple years when they become affordable...

But if they want to be the instant leader, they should use an aggresive price. I know Panny and this Pioneer are not in the same league, but with major price difference, and can come down to the best bang for the buck!

This was discussed in earlier posts, and there will be no "media receiver" per se, but rather an optional "switcher/connection box" will be offered.

Still no prices yet.

And the 1080p models have greater contrast compared to the 768p models !!!

I know! I guess I shouldn't get overly excited by looking at a picture viewed over my computer monitor, but man that shadow detail looks outstanding! The one with the trees does an excellent job displaying that.

One thing I noticed is that the 1080p line is claiming a 20,000:1 true contrast ratio but the 768p line is claiming 16,000:1. Does anyone find that weird? You would think it would be the other way around. It doesn't matter, I was planning on buying the Top Dog anyway but I was also contemplating on buying a 50" 768p set for my living room too.

EXCITING NEWS!!!

It looks like the Elite 1080p models have the best colour filter - Digital Colour Filter III Plus.

Whereas it seems that the Elite 768p models do not have the Digital Colour Filter III Plus.

Strange given that in this past year, the Elites including the PRO-FHD1 all had the same colour filter.

So it's true that there's no 60 inch 768 model. Hmm... seems the only news that we
got that we don't already know is the CR of the 768 model (and how it's actually
lower than that of the 1080P model).

I'm actually more interested in the US announcement to see if it has any further
details (doubt it). September is a long time away and I just hate the thought of
waiting all summer for a TV. I mean, I love summer and all, but to hope that it goes
by quickly... absurd!

Is that true for Samsung's plasmas? I knew they inflated their LCD contrast ratio, but I wasn't sure how their contrast actually compared to Pioneer or Panasonic.

I'm debating picking up a 4254 right now or holding off for the 8G 42'' Pioneer. It's a tough call because I can get one right now for cheaper or wait to pay more for higher quality. Not an easy decision....

Quote from Pioneer Europe

The new screens also have an Optimum Mode', or what the designers call Intelligent brightness control, which intelligently controls brightness so that you get the best picture, regardless of the lighting conditions.

This automatically processes the images based on the source and the room conditions.

For example, a dark image will be processed differently than a bright one, so, for example, a football game during the day will be processed differently than a night game. The signal will also be processed based on your actual living room conditions. So, the screen will make adjustments for a day game recorded and viewed in a dark room at night.

End Quote

How do you think this "Optimum Mode" will work? Is there a built-in light sensor at the front of the panel....

Or do we select the "Room/Brightness" condition from a menu?

It says that it is an automatic process....so I'm inclined to believe that a light meter/sensor may exist on the panels.
