I love the picture so far. The colors look very realistic and the black levels look, well, black. I haven't had it ISF calibrated yet as it only has a little over 50 hours. All I did was adjust the basic settings using Digital Video Essentials HD and the picture looks great. It also doesn't hurt that bolt just looks amazing no matter what you use to play it. I think very few people will be unhappy with the picture of these displays, but I'm no expert on the matter.

Nice pics and setup zspec. I've been looking at Samsung plasma for awhile..I know a lot of people had problems with a pink hue on the 08' models. I couldn't help but notice that Bolt seems to have a pinkish hue in some of those pics. I've never seen Bolt though -- is this just something from the source or your camera maybe?

Thanks

Well you can see why it was well liked by Ultimate AV and was Consumer's Report top choice for plasma last year.

Damn, I knew there was something off about that picture of Bolt. The white hair definitely looks pink. I went to Blu-ray.com to compare.

Samsung:

Blu-ray disk:

That last picture looks pink as well so I don't know if it's the source or a combination of both.

I dunno, I haven't seen the movie but everyone of those images from Blu-ray.com look pink and cloudy to me. Maybe it's my computer monitor? LOL

It could just be the lighting in that scene.

The picture was set to dynamic in those pics since cartoon movies look much better to us in that mode. The dynamic mode does make the pink stand out more. With that said my set does have the pink hue problem almost all over the screen with the exception of about a 4 inch horizontal band starting about 3 inches from the top. I decided to keep it since I can't notice it at all when watching films. Since I have a 6 year extended warranty with in house repairs I'll just call if it gets worst in the future.

Are you sure you really want to live with that pink hue issue. Try watching a hockey game and having skaters skate on a cute pink white sheet of ice. If its all over a white screen return that thing.

Put it on Cinema and post some new pics so we can compare the pink issue between the two modes.

I would consider trading it in on a 2009 model if they fixed the problem this year. Price is about the same on the 58B550.

We honestly don't notice it at all unless we have the white screen mode and are looking for it. If we start to notice it during regular viewing then we'll make the call. Not to mention we don't watch any hockey.

Here are a few pictures of bolt in cinema mode and of the white screen mode. I thought about getting the new 2009 model but I picked up this nib pn58a550 one for $800 cheaper than the new ones from fotoconnection.com.

I do see some pinks and greens there. Question, why do most recommend using the different Cinema/Movie modes? The colors look much more accurate on my PN42B450 on Standard than they do on Cinema.

Don't know why you're shopping there only, but there is a $200 difference between the a550/b550 models online.

I wasn't only shopping there, it just so happened to be the cheapest place at the time of purchase (less than $1800 including shipping when ordered and just under 2k with the 6 year in house service extended warranty). I think it was a good deal and am pretty happy with it. I'll take another look at the b550 to see if it's worth the extra cash and trouble involved with the exchange.

Most tv sets cinema mode are setup closer to the d65k standard. I recommend you watch it in cinema mode for a couple of days, then switch to standard and tell us if you think it still looks better in standard mode.

yes, movie mode is the way to go. at first i wasn't so sure, but it is definitely the best. especially if you're watching in very low light conditions.
