I have done hours of research and have settled on a 42" pioneer plasma.

I guess the problem is now that they have announced their 2007 line I am doubting whether or not I should buy an older model.

Ultimately there are 3 models I can buy right now...

PDP-4270HD
PDP-4280HD
Elite PRO- 940HD

Elite PRO-950HD will be out of my budget for sure.

Obviously I would like to spend on the PDP-4370HD and have money left over for a PS3!

The screen is going into the third floor of my house which is under construction and will be my man room (as my wife calls it) / home theater.

Gaming and movies, that's it.

I currently have an xbox 360 but will make some leap to Blue-Ray or HD-DVD as part of this process. AVR and speakers have already been selected.

Thanks in advance for your wise counsel

This thread is probably going to implode once the admins see all of the prices on here.

I'm not sure what to tell you, oshuwah. Like you said, you could get the 4270 and PS3 for the same price as a 4280. The 4270 is far from junk and from what I've seen in various stores after fiddling with settings, the 8th gen Pioneers aren't the earth-shattering improvement everyone here claims them to be (at least in the 720p models). Better? Yes. Orgasmic picture improvement? No.

It just depends how much stuff you want to get with your money.

And make sure the seller on Amazon is an authorized Pioneer dealer so you get the warranty.

The TV on Amazon is from Amazon, not a reseller.

At 700 cheaper I think I have to be prudent and buy the 4270.

With the extra 700 I can buy my onkyo tx sr64 receiver and the parts to build my speakers!

Or a PS3 and a universal remote.

Argh. On one hand I want the latest and greatest one the other hand, it comes with a price.

Any recommendations for places in Canada (Toronto)? Futureshop/Best Buy are the only places I know of and their price is nowhere near Plasma Concept.

It just depends how much stuff you want to get with your money.

Depends on where you watch. What you watched. And how you feel about the 4270's performance with the color of black... which again affects all other aspects of PQ.

I switched my 5070 out because I had a proper comparison between the 5080 and the 1140 Elite. Did it piss me off that Pioneer 'all the sudden' decide to drop this black on me after I spent all that money on my 5070? Yes. Very much so.

But the PQ was so "orgasmic" as you put it, that I sold my 5070. So yes, it's in my opinion that these new ones put the previous gens to shame on all TVs. And until someone could tells me that the wicked Wizard of Oz tricked my eyes than I stick with that opinion.

If you don't mind the color of black you get from previous gen TVs (make sure you watch in the dark first) Then these new TVs probably aren't worth the upcharge. Just make sure you know that blacker blacks means much more than just the obvious.

I don't know what I am doing! AHHHHHHH!!!!

The speakers on the bottom are the worst thing that could happen to a PDP. You should buy a Fujitsu with a better warranty, better processor and cosmetically better looking. Fujitsu was the inventor of plasma! I would run from a Pioneer 42"

I challenge the better processor, barring further notice. I also challenge the 'better cosmetically' looking. Oh well! At least we know Fujitsu's good on pricing.

Oh.. wait...

Why?

Personally I don't care about the speakers because I never use them.
