The Jack Black shots are great, indeed. At first I thought there was red push in the white shirt, but the white out-of-focus object in front is free of red coloration, so it passes with flying colors (which, believe me, makes me happy:-)

Yea...but nitpicking is what we all do here to try and get the most out of our displays. The feedback is always welcome and I'm sure you'll love your new set when it arrives, these Kuros really are stunning.

If you or anyone else has any shots they'd like to see let me know. I have a pretty large HD-DVD collection.

Okay cybertec you won. Maybe I won. Anyway I am returning my 5080. Axxis Audio shipped my Elite 110 and it arrived today. Break in can wait. I am going to watch the world series. Hell yeah baby!!! And oh i feel better I think. That 5080 really does look good guess I need to sit closer to the 110 I guess. Watching planet earth at the moment and moving in eight feet to view.

what do you mean by the times of the captures, no lights in the room at around 7pm, if that's what you want to know.

He's probably talking about the exact time of the film. Like 1h38min25sec

Yea...sorry for not being clear...I meant time into the film such as 1:38:05 for the first picture, 0:49:01 for the second, etc etc...also I assume you are shooting and then resizing to 800x600 for the image uploads?

I shoot in Jpeg fine Small file, which is still like 5.5mb's on my Nikon D200, smugmug uploads them and resizes them accordingly, in regards to the movie and the time those captures where taken, I can't recall, but the one where I take a close capture of his eye is when he bows to Zerxes just before all hell breaks loose, the other I am sure you can find by watching the whole movie.

Cool...yea...my Kodak just spits out 500kB JPEG files. I don't really have any fine control, how do you like the D200? I know it's a pretty professional camera, but I'm looking to upgrade to a good SLR.

the D200 is FANTASTIC, D300 is comming out this Nov-Dec, so the D200 should drop in price.

hi

hate to keep asking but i think my requests are missing peoples eyes.

anyone connecting a pc to the 5010 or the 110, could you please post some screenshots of the desktop and any webpage on a browser. the browser can take up the right half of the screen which would mean only 1 screenshot is needed. i could view the start menu and desktop icons on the left.

i plan to be running a pc on it for a lot of media with the res at 1920x1200.

thanks.

note: the post above is my opinion. as such, when reading any recommendations from me, please do you research and seek out other recommendations and make up your own mind on your next course of action. i mean, most reasonable adults should know that, but it seems this should be stated anyways.

U won't be able to do 1920x1200 on these panels. 1920x1080 is as high as they will go. Hence the 1080p

You the man cybertec.

Anyway... I just wanted to try these pictures out to see if I've gotten any better. Probably not. But ey! Spider-Man 3 on a Kuro Plasma... photographs horribly taken by me. Its late and there's some other things going on in my head...

Oh yea isn't it hard to believe? Underneath that mask its Eric Forman. Geesh.

"Wow my costume is so black now that I can be seen on a Pioneer Kuro!"

Eric... Forman.

I'm sure you all have seen your girlfriends and wives have this look before. This is scarier than the photographs above I'm sure.

"Why is JB such a horrible photographer?"

I don't know what I am doing! AHHHHHHH!!!!

yep meant 1920*1080...i am using a 16:10 24" monitor so 1920*1200 is stuck in my mind.

I am looking at the 5080 or 5010 for a potential fit for me in my basement room 12.5' x 14.5' ..

I have built a wall with a cavity of 60" (wide) x (33.75" high) x 15.5" (deep).

Upon looking at the TV measurements I think I can swing it, BARELY in the height w/ the stand and all (WHEW)!!

Soooo.. I have been busting my head against the wall for a nice HDTV in the area of $2500-$3000..

So how does these TVs stack up, does it have any flaws that you can tell me off?

I would have like a Pioneer 1080p TV, but the price of the 5010 (I am not sure it is worth it) - thoughts??

Does the 720p (or 768p from what I have heard) on the 5080 handle the BlueRay DVD at 1080p ok ???

The pix I saw last night on the 5080 at BB was nothing short of awsome.

From past looking at the HDTVs..

I have reviewed the Samsung LN-T4671 LCD and it suffers from Mura (clouding) and some flashlighting in the corners and the treaded Triple Ball Effect (TBE) when viewing long passes in football, or Triple Puck Effect (TPE) in hockey..

The 120Hz / AMP just does not cut it ..

So can you please give me the good, the bad, and the UGLY on this 5080 and whether the settling for 720p is a bad thing.

Do you think there is a difference between the 5080 and say the 5010D which I think is 1080p.. I would think so but ..

PS --> Any good place to get a good deal on this that you know of?

I wish this Kuro thread would have individual Pioneer sets, ie. xx80, one for the xx10 etc..

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it..

Some more...Troy Director's Cut and Face-Off:

I know the last one looks really red, but I think it is the scene given those same hues aren't in the other facial shots. I feel like everyone else's camera work is getting better while mine is only getting worse. I need to contract cybertec to come and shoot for me.

zinkie - a few questions to start off.

What will you be using the tv for?
How far will you be sitting from the tv?
What is your maximum budget with taxes and shipping included?

I'm going to take a series of shots under different settings this weekend and post for people's review...one at the current ISF-calibrations, bumping up sharpness, DRE, etc etc. I feel like DRE for HD/BD-DVDs is fine since they are (hopefully) clean sources. Just want to do some experiments and see how these all look.

Thanks again for the compliment John, it has taken me a few years to learn how to use a DSLR to it's full potential, and I have more learning to do. I make sure that the primary focus point is always focusing at the eyes or close to them, at 5.6 or 6.3 aperture which gives you plenty of resolution and detail across the whole field of view, once you shoot below 5.6 especially at 2.8 or 3.5 you start blurring out the background, which of course is a perfect aperture for portrait picture taking.

For both you and the above poster my first question would be, how far away from the new set do you anticipate sitting? If >8-9ft I doubt you'll notice much difference between the 5080 or 5010 in terms of resolution or detail, but may see a difference in black level.

The key question:-)

Also, keep in mind that at a distance, the lower resolution display may look a little better to many (more contrasty, even when both are properly calibrated,) than its higher res equivalent.

I still have an ancient 42" ED Panasonic, the TH-42PW3, which at the time cost me almost double of what I just paid for the 6010FD and I actually still think it looks better from my viewing distance than many similarly-sized 720p and 1080 sets.

Take this for what it's worth....

Hi Maynerd..

1) I want to use the TV to watch Sports (all kinds of it),
watch movies on upscale DVD player (and soon perhaps
a BlueRay DVD player.

2) When in seats we would be from 8-11' away, on the
floor in bean-bags perhaps 5-8' ...

3) I could go up to $3600 or so I spose.. don't want to
break the bank though

We have a 12.5' x 14.5' room.

Can someone get me EXACT measurements on the 5010 w/ the speakers and stand included. I have a 34" high cavity in the wall I just made and from what I think I have read on sights is that this TV (w/ stand and speakers) is about 33.5" ...

What are the problems with these TV sets (especially the 5010 I guess).

Would the 1080p set give a better picture in the long haul and up closer, i.e 5-8' away..

Thanks,
