John,
Thanks for your response. I appreciate the offer! Once I get it up and running(end of january) I will look at the service menu and determine if I can figure it out or not. I may take you up on the offer

You're welcome. My contact info is in the link in my signature, or send PM when you're ready.

Sounds good! On a related note, how does this particular unit fair in comparison to some of the newer Panny plasmas? Does it calibrate out well?

Have a good weekend,

Brandon

The display is from 4.5 yrs ago, so the black levels are not as good as today's Panny's, but the color accuracy is probably close to equal with the ST30. I use it in my main family room with some ambient light, and when company visits, they consistently mention what a good picture it produces. My setting really make this display sing.

It still looks good enough that it doesn't make me itch to upgrade it yet. No floating blacks or fluctuating brightness issues, no IR, or burn issues.

Have you changed your calibration settings over the years? Do you adjust the brightness to make up for the screen loosing brightness?

The only thing that makes me want a new TV is the heat it produces and the power consumption.

You don't use the brightness control to increase light output. The brightness control adjust black level. The only way to adjust light output on these displays is to adjust contrast/picture setting, or going into the service menu and adjusting the all-drive setting.

I don't have the settings in front of me. I'll touch base with you tomorrow. Are you comfortable with entering the service menu?

I have a 50PZ700U, that I have loved over the years and debated about upgrading to the VT/ZT series and then of course missed the boat. I looked at all the latest screens out there from the Samsung plasmas to the OLED and nothing has impressed me as much as the VT/ZT plasmas yet (I may of course be biased with my Viera coloured glasses). I have come across a brand new 65VT60 now and have a couple of questions:

1. would like to know if anyone out there has upgraded from the PZ700 series to the VT series and how much of an improvement there is.

2. would it be foolish to upgrade to this screen with all the 4K talk out there

Thanks for your help and advice!

Any thoughts on the whole 4k conversation?
