Would you expect the same results with this years sets?
I just got home from checking out the Pana 85U and the Sammy 450(didn't have the 550 in yet) and they both look improved over their previous years equivalent...especially in brightness.

You're speaking of the Panasonics? If so, no...except maybe the 800u series.

So you expect Panasonics 800U's to be more off than the rest of their line-up?

Strange. The big river doesn't even have the 550 anymore? It was there just a few hours ago without a picture but with price.
Now....none.?
Strange that the big box stores have them but not the big river.

That is really bad! 1,000,000:1 Dynamic? C'mon Samsung and Panasonic!

I saw the Panny 42PX80U in a semi-darkened area of BB next to a Samsung 71 series LCD. Somehow on an all black screen the 25,000:1 CR on the 71 series had deeper blacks than the 80U 1,000,000:1. Also, I didn't really see any deeper blacks on the 80U over last years Samsung (however I must admit I didn't grab the remotes though).

Guess manufacturers are just making up numbers now.

maybe because the Panasonics are brighter for 2008 this will increase the contrast ratio.

Panasonic's first THX-certified plasmas are part of the PZ800 series, including the 42-inch TH-42PZ800, 46-inch TH-46PZ800, 50-inch TH-50PZ800, and 58-inch TH-58PZ800 (available in spring, pricing n/a). All meet THX Certified Display specs for color, luminance, and video processing, with a special THX Movie Mode whose color settings precisely match the ATSC color standard.

Anyone have a 550 yet. Trying to decide between the 550, a panny 85u or one of the last 5080hd's.

If brightness increased it that much then LCDs would have a very high CR. I think it's a manufacturer's war with numbers unfortunately.

To answer my own question regarding the 1080/24fps. The answer looks like no. I just downloaded the user manual it looks like 60 hz only. I did email Samsung and if I'm wrong I'll let everyone know.

Whats the deal with the Sammy 550's....Is 58 the largest size? Do they stack up to Panny and Pio for quality? Timeframe to see them in stores? I havent seen much info on these at all compared to whats out there for Panny/Pio.

Im surprised the Sammy thread is not getting near the love of the Panny thread. The new 50" Samsung plasma has a 30000:1 CR and is $400 less than the Panny.

Although they are released, but no reviews from owners have showed up. The new Panasonic models have been released for nearly a month.

Well obviously that doesn't mean anything. Once the Samsungs actually start hitting the market in number they won't be selling for MSRP.

it looks like that 58" is going to be a great bang for the buck.
the new Pioneer 60" will most likely cost double.

Actually, there is. The Samsung FP-T6374. Goto Samsung US website for details.

Oh btw, I got one. I think it's the largest "affordable" plasma around. I'm not sure about others complaining about Samsung TV reliability or quality but ever since I start buying HDTV, I had own Samsung DLP projector TV, a Samsung 40" LCD and now the latest, the Samsung 63" plasma.
