I have a Samsung HC-R4755W 47in Projection TV I bought years ago. I have yet to upgrade and I am trying to connect a DS3 via a HDMI 4x1 switch.

Right now the R4755W is connected to my DirecTV DVR via a HDMI to DVI cable, works fine. But I bought a HDMI 4x1 Smart Switch (HSW0401B) and connected the DVR to Switch (Input 1) with a HDMI/HDMI cable, PS3 to Switch (Input 2) with a HDMI/HDMI cable and connected the Switch to R4755W (Output) with the HDMI to DVI cable. But what I get is a half of a frozen picture. I did connect the PS3 to the R4755W with the HDMI to DVI cable and had no issues.

Has anyone used this set up and it worked? Cables are fine but I'm not sure if the Switch is functioning correctly? Or do I have a bad Switch? Or do I use a different type of switch?

Thanks, Mr. K

I guess my first question is why do you need the switch when you only have two inputs? The DirecTV receiver can go into the component inputs and the PS3 can use the DVI. I know that isn't what you asked, but it would get rid of the switch in the middle with no loss of quality.

Assuming that isn't an option try setting your output resolution on both the DirecTV and PS3 box to 720p and then try 1080i. Also make sure all HDMI options are off with the sources and the TV. Deep color and CEC should be off, if those options are available. I doubt your TV has either but I know the PS3 has both options.

That is a fairly cheap switch (~$20) and so it wouldn't surprise me if it can't handle the different sources but you can try a few things first to confirm. That you tried both sources direct to the TV and they worked does lead me to believe it is the switch or an option that the switch can't handle.
