I have three devices plugged to my HDMI TV:
- MacMini Home Server, ALWAYS ON - connected with HDMI
- Apple TV (as you know it's ALWAYS ON STANDBY) - connected with HDMI
- XBox, on on demand - connected with HDMI
I use the Mini as a home automation server + Music, Movies, TV Shows, Pictures Server and thus it has to stay always on. The Apple TV Works mainly as a Netflix box & for Airplay purposes and for renting iTunes movies. The Xbox is used only for my gaming.
At the moment I have 3 HDMI In (maximum supported by my TV). All the devices uses HDMI for audio as well, that goes to the TV (and from there I can choose if to passthrough the signal to my 5.1 with a digital out or keep it on the TV Speakers).
The 5.1 is always on.
At the moment I have to switch the TV On (no CEC apparently) and select the correct input. As the MacMini works as music server, I would like to be able to fire up my Remote App on my iphone and select the music and that's it, having the music on my 5.1 (which is the preferred output of the TV).
I can keep the TV always on standby as it has great energy saving options, but I was wondering if an AutoSwitch would solve my problems.
Any help here would be appreciated!!1
