A small bump due to Paramount recalling Iron Man on Blu-ray...

Once again, mine plays just fine.

Anyone tried Madagascar in the BH200 yet? Mines on June firmware and doesn't seem to want to play. I get the loading screen, then nothing. Tried clearing the BD cache. First disc I've personally had any trouble getting to play. Maybe I'm just not being patient enough?

You ever get a chance to try it? I returned the disc to my local frys. They have a bh200 as a "tester" for returned discs. It didn't play in there. There were surprisingly helpful, let me try a second disc off of a shelf which also didn't play. They also put it in a Sony blu ray player. It appeared to have the same problem. So I don't know if it a batch of discs or what.

My copy will not play on either of my BH-200s. It shows "Loading" and then goes to a black screen - but no movie. Popped it in to my PS3 and it played no problem. I called LG and they say that it is a firmware matter and that the 080102 program update should fix. I will try tonight, but is that the latest firmware?

That is a very interesting response. It tells us LG know full well the March, April and June firmware added a serious bug that was not evident in the January firmware. They've got the date wrong though, the actual January firmware is dated: 20080124 (or BH02080124R). It can be downloaded from LG's Service Site.

This is by no means the first disc that works with the January firmware but not newer firmware (our problem list has a few examples). Did LG say when they'd be re-releasing new firmware that fixes this bug?

I bet it works fine with the January firmware. Can you please test it and I'll add the info to the list.

Is the 080102 the January firmware? Right now, I have the 0620A firmware and had never had a problem until this disc.

Oh, I would not count on the LC rep to be of much help. I have called 5 different times and each rep has given me a different answer. None had even heard of the movie Madagascar. One told me that there is nothing that can be done, another told me that you cannot updat using a USB, another told me that if you use a USB and Windows Vista that will be a problem, another told me something else. My head is spinning. This morning the lady told me that the 080102 was the latest firmware and was released in August. I don't think that is correct, but I am going to at least try it.

Yeah, I just checked the LG site and there does appear to be a file for 0801 which seems to imply August 1st (0620A and 0402 are the others which are the June and Aprils respectively). So maybe there is an updated firmware to try.

Yes, that is what the LG rep told me. I am dubious as to whether that will work or not, but have nothing to lose and will try it tonight. I will post the results after I try. Thanks for responding.

FYI: The January firmware doesn't have lossless audio support (except PCM). The first firmware to have this is the March firmware. I'd recommend trying it and re-flashing back if you need this functionality.

It's not 080102 but 080124. LG have got the date wrong. It can be downloaded from the LG Service Sites, you want:

* File size: 33,744K
* 3rd in the list
* You will see when opening this, that the firmware version is listed as: BH02080124R

I bet it works (presuming it's the January not this mysterious August firmware). There are several discs that don't work with the March and newer firmware but do with the January firmware.

That is interesting, that date doesn't translate to August at all. I'd personally say it's bollocks and they've got it wrong but you never know.

Did they tell you where this firmware is listed? It's not on the USA site, which just lists the usual: November, January, April, June firmware. Only four firmware files are listed.

It's actually different than tht 080124:

Program Update for BH200. Windows 2000
Windows XP
LG_BH_LV221BH.zip SB_BH200_1119P_080102.pdf 39,378K
76K

It's 4th on the list, below this listing which matches your description of the Jan firmware:

Program Update for BH200. Windows 2000
Windows XP
LG_BH_LV221BH.zip SB_BH200_0124R.pdf 33,744K
76K

Not sure if that means it's from August, but it's definitely does not appear to be the same file. Definitely one I haven't noticed before.

The date inside the zip file is January (I dl'd it out of curiosity).

That's the November 2007 firmware, the very first firmware in fact. You don't want to go installing that one. In the list, it goes newest firmware first.

I see what you mean though, for some reason they've change the filename of the PDF instructions. I've no idea why they're added 080102 to it as it's definitely not that date (which is either January or February 2008 depending how it's formatted), it's especially dumb as it's not mentioned anywhere else.

I've downloaded the firmware and opening the LG_BH_LV221BH.ROM file (which is the file inside the ZIP file) in Wordpad, I can see the header information is:

BH02071119P

Which translates to:

BH02 - LG BH200 (the BH100 firmware all starts BH01)
071119 - 2007/11/19 (i.e - it's the same old November firmware.)

The letter at the end doesn't seem to mean anything.

In other words LG have messed up the filename of the PDF instrutctions. Sadly there is no new firmware on the LG Service site. It would be interesting to find out where LG expect us to download this mythical August firmware?

You don't want to go installing this firmware, it's ancient! You may find Madagacsar works with the January (080124) firmware though.

Don't go by what the date on the filename is but open the ROM file itself in Wordpad (use a copy of it) and you will see the very first line has the name of the firmware. Obviously then delete this file and don't use it to upgrade your BH200!

It's the same firmware that's always been there but oddly they've just changed the filename of the PDF instructions. I've downloaded the PDF and it's the exact same instructions they've always supplied. Thanks btw though, it was worth a shot.

It's a scary thought, we know more than LG support. They've been telling you guys to downgrade your BH200 to the ancient November firmware. That's scary!

The European LG Service Sites (see Mini-FAQ for the links) do have a new firmware though or rather I should say additional firmware. The November BH02071119P firmware (that is on the USA & Canadian sites) is also listed, as it always has been.

It's also listed as BH02071119 but instead of a P it has F at the end. It's change log says:

* Hang up while navigating JPEG Thumbnail Review on USB.
* Doesn't show splash screen image on booting time

It also has a rather odd filename of: LG_BH_LV221BH.ROM_1119f_AsCKRs_production (instead of the usual LG_BH_LV221BH.ROM).

It's ultimately the November firmware though, it must be a minor tweak. Oddly the BH02071119P firmware doesn't mention these changes in it's "change log". It's best ignored, it's still ancient.

Stick with the June (BH02080620) firmware until something actually new comes along.

Can I recommend you ask them where it is? It's definitely not the current one listed with a 080102 date. If you ask them and they say it is, point out it's firmware name is: BH02071119P (click on the link and you'll see it mentioned).

How does 080102 translate to August 08 too? If we presume the 08 is August, then it's either a 2001 or 2002 build . It's rubbish, LG are talking bollocks.

This is not the first time LG have cocked up the firmware on the service sites. They even leaked out a Beta March firmware (before the Official April one was released) but put it inside the filename of the January firmware. It was only by luck someone spotted it, before they pulled it from the site a few days later.

Go by the name in the header of the ROM file. This is the only conclusive information on what firmware it actually is, without installing it of course.

I did ask already and relayed what they said. I feel calling does not good as there is more intel here rather than there. I know that I already updated with the BH02080620 firmware. I even it put it back in (via USB download) last night just to be sure as I too believed that to be the latest. With that update, the movie Madagascar will not play. That is why I had some hope that maybe there was a later version to install. My fear is that as new movies come our on BR the player will not play them. It is very odd though that I get a video screen that shows it loading, but no movie.

Fair enough then.

All I can suggest is you try the January firmware, that is known to work with some discs that don't work/work properly with firmware released afterwards. You can always flash back to the June firmware afterwards.

It's always annoyingly the case that 1st line support don't have a clue. I've wasted so much time speaking to support personal who clearly don't have a clue. It's always also a nightmare trying to get through to 2nd or 3rd line support, who actually know something.

I've added Madagascar to the June list btw.

Just got off the phone with an LG CSR. Per the CSR, the latest firmware version for the BH-200 is the one that ends in 080624.

Classic . Which is exactly what we knew all along. So there is no August firmware after all.

They're identical things. LG release all firmware with a short and long name. 0620A is just an abbreviation of BH02080620A, which translates to 2008-06-20.

I see they've got the date wrong again though . It's 2008-06-20 not 2008-06-24. The January firmware is dated 2008-01-24 though. Talk about making something simple really confusing. How useless LG Support are.

Thanks again btw.

p.s - What does CSR mean? Customer Services Representative? We don't use that term over here.

Yep, exactly what it means.

Well, hopefully there is a new firmware coming. I've been generally happy with the unit and June firmware, until Madagascar wouldn't play. Hopefully this doesn't become a common problem. However, I saw the problem at Frys on a non BH200 Bluray player and someone else mentioned a freeze up (didn't mention player) in the Bluray software thread. I'm guessing whatever it is, there are others who will need to release updated firmware.

Thanks.

It may need a recall or fixed disc, like the recent Paramount Iron Man BD.

Ok, I have tried every firmware version from the us.lgservice.com web page and none will play Madagascar. Each time I get the same loading screen and then just blank screen thereafter. Very strange. To be sure I am not doing anything incorrect. I downloaded the file; extract the file from the zip; and then copy to a USB drive. I plugged the USB into the BH200 and it took the firmware no problem.

By "no go" do you mean that Madagascar will not play with that firmware?
