Looking for anyone has the BD-UP5000 running firmware 1.3 connected to a Pioneer PDP-5080, and is comfortable going into the Service Menu of the Pioneer. If you could go into the SM of the Pioneer, page down to the screen that shows the model of the player that is connected and tell me what model Samsung BD player is shown I would appreciate it. Interestingly mine says BDP-1500.
The screen that gives that information if I recall is HDMI SIGNAL INFO 2

Spudso,

It's a kown issue first showed up in firmware ver 1.3.

BTW, just watched Hancock and I didn't experience audio problem at all like I experienced with Zohan. Maybe 1.4 fixed this issue?

Thanks Foxbat - tried to go through the various threads but didn't come across anything ( or missed it ) . Thought of updating to firmware 1.4 just to see if it would change, but am reluctant to do so as the player has never failed to play any disc I have thrown at it. I would hate to "break" it by doing an update.

That's not the experience I had. I have since given the disc away as a gift to a friend (I can borrow to recheck) but under 1.4 it was pretty severe on my player.

I *would* say I'm jealous but your player experiences annoying lockups so I won't tempt fate like that.

Has anyone else had this problem with the Blu-ray DVD the Rolling Stones "Shine A Light". When the menu appears and you select setup and go to audio and select which audio you want, the disk will freeze up. You have to power down to restart. It happens every time. When you select play the disk plays fine.

I assume you're using firmware 1.4? This is one from those lot of problematic Paramount titles released on July 29, 2008.

I don't know if this is a known issue but Band of Brothers disk one displayed cases of audio drop outs and picture freezes. I only experienced two such cases that lasted no more than a second but they were annoying none the less. Should also mention that it is a brand new copy and I am running 1.4.

I'll assume that's the American Blu-ray and not the Japanese HD DVD. I have the former and watched it all the way through late last year without interruptions (with 1.4).

Rented the goofy Pineapple Express. Watching the Unrated version bitstreamed, I did hear a few faint audio pops/dropouts and it was almost always at scene/chapter changes, suggesting the seamless branching was the culprit. That said, I hardly noticed it when it happened and was hardly a showstopper. Maybe it's time to revisit Hancock and/or Zohan.

Yea...I just played Body of Lies rental without a hitch...it was a great feeling. I saw a report on highdefdigest that Akira won't play in this player, though. Need some more confirmations...are people still getting new discs for their player?

The old problems still need fixing and since there has been some stability in performance since the last update, this is a good a time as any for Samsung to wrap up any loose ends.

Still an awesome player, over the past couple of weeks we watched the Firefly, Changling, The Passion of Christ and Serenity in Blu-ray. The player got an HD DVD work out with Breach, Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 2 in C minor "Resurrection" and Rides Volume 1.

Istn exactly new. but I watched Step Brothers (which is a branched Disc I believe) without a hitch.

Havent bought many disks lately, but I think I am going to wait at least until this summer for major purchases are BSG and ST are coming out. There are a few disks that I would like to get that are out and coming out though, but I dont forsee any issues. The media player I got has been taking a lot of my time recently so the 5K has been taking a break . Ill tell you what the Fiancee told me that this little thing is the "best gadget that I have purchased yet". For me its a very nice suplement to the player.

I just got an open box BDUP5000 at a steal price. (so low I hesitate to mention) from Best Buy.

It already had been updated to firmware 1.3.

So far it will not load the following blu-rays:

Indiana Jones/Crystal Skull
Iron Man
Hulk

It will load Narnia: Prince Caspian

That's it so far.

We have a problem, Houston. I would recommend installing 1.4 pronto just to be safe but none of those discs have been notorious for problems on this player. The reason I say "pronto" is because you need to make sure you have the latest update before calling Samsung and requesting an RMA.

I'll give 1.4 a shot.

(crossing fingers)

The Best Buy guy did convince me to spend $10 for 2 years of replacement guarantee.

I just tried a HD-DVD (Nacho Libre) and it played fine.

I have a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Burner/Reader in my computer, so I know the discs I already tried are good. Heck, I even had a friend's BDUP5000 a few months ago and Iron Man worked then. (back on 1.0 firmware).

thanks for the responses

I burned an upgrade CD for 1.4 and inserted it. It asked me if I wanted the upgrade, I said yes. it's been "Now, Processing" for over 10 minutes now. I don't remember other firmwares taking so long.

Am I screwed?

Edit: 20 minutes now.

I was the one who reported Akira not working with the 5K. I have also heard a few reports that it won't run on the LG BH-200 either.

Nevertheless I already contacted Samsung support to inform them of the problem, so lets keep our fingers crossed that they hop to it and make a fix. Also to verify I have installed the 1.4 version of the firmware.

Have you tried the workaround for the BH200? It might be worth a shot in the meantime...
