If you don't have or are not plaining on acquiring any HD-DVDs then you will be better off with a BD only player. Personally I love old obsolete video/audio formats so all my players are dual ones (have 5 of the Sammy BD-UP5000s and one of the LG BH200s). I have even sold or given away some of my BDs that I originally bought used or new for cheep once I found the HD equivalent. A few of those I have kept the BD and not opened the HD since many of the last ones produced are quite expensive and valuable (to the right person) now. But for the most part I collect the HDs and not the BDs, though my BD collection is almost as vast as the HD collection now, given all the material that is not on HD but has been released on BD.

The BH200 is still a very good and capable machine and over the past year or so has now surpassed the Sammy as far as playability problems (lack of). The Sammy has issues with the latest code and several newer Disney titles where the LG does not. Also the LG supports BD-live, not something I care about. I prefer the Sammy due to Reon video processing for DVDs. Also don't miss 3D, that ImOHO is an annoying passing fad that I wish would go away. Also parts and broken down or marginal players to harvest for parts are plentiful, where the LG seems to be a bit more obscure.

Whilst Mega Upload is down, if anyone needs any of the files I link to hosted on Mega Upload Private Message me and I'll upload them elsewhere. Taking an entire website down for a percentage of copyrighted files seems rather draconian to put it lightly. Hopefully Mega Upload will be back up soon enough.

Can anyone recommend any other equally good free online storage services? I've found Mega Upload the simplest to download files from and files stay online the longest.

That's also the best I've found in leaving files untouched. I don't know any others that match. The Feds targeted the one that would do the most damage.

Hi all I have seem to have run into a small issue changing regions on my BH-200. The HDMI stopped working a few months back so I got a set of component cables. However a problem arose, once the disc tray is open the screen goes black, and since that's the first step to changing regions I'm stuck.

Now following the other steps blindly with my remote the front screen of my player shows AT 00 which is all the further I can go. If somebody could give me a count of button presses (press left 4 times, press up 6 times) I would appreciate it.

Does anyone know where you can get the April 2008 FW so you can play Bd-re's? Also does anyone have the problem with bluray where the Bh-200 just blacks out for a few seconds every once in a while?

If I downgrade from the latest firmware to the April 2008 version to enable playing of BD-R, what would I miss out on, besides BDLive (not fussed) and compatibility with some movies? In particular, will I be able to bitstream all HD audio formats properly over HDMI? Any other show stoppers?

The only reason I had to upgrade mine was to be able to play the original "Back to the Future" movie. Wouldn't play on the 2008 firmware for some reason, the other movies in the trilogy were fine.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this forum is now dumber for having read it.

Has anyone had any issues playing the Blu ray version of THX-1138? I can't seem to get it to play on my BH-200. I have the latest Firmware (BH02100330A) and Drivers (0702). The movie or I should say cloud screen shows up and then it goes black and starts showing a disc spinning on the TV screen, goldish, in colour and it just keeps spinning. I gave up after 15 minutes.

Anyone know of any fixes that might get it running properly?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I haven't tried mine in the LG yet, only the Sammy 5K. When I get back from this business trip I will give it a whirl. A long shot, but did you try to unhook the Ethernet cable or disable Internet etc. when you tried to play it. I can't remember if that one has BD live content or not. My LG has the same firmware/driver as yours.

I had a similar problem with Californication. Using the prior version of the firmware allowed it to play.

Same results for me except I got a disc error and it spit it out on the first try. I have never seen that before and this is the first disc that I have had an issue with. Played lady and the tramp BD and DVD with no issues. I tried with and without internet and also tried the stop then disc menu trick that helps some movies in the Sammy combo.

Just PM me guys. I've got the files in the Mini-FAQ in on my hard disk. The Multi-region SD DVD hack is tiny, only about 200-300Kb. Perfectly easy to e-mail.

As it happens I was going to re-upload all the broken links the past weekend but on the day I was planning to do it, my bloody laptop battery decided to die on me. It won't turn on, even when plugged in. I've got all files backed up on an external drive but the laptop I'm borrowing is so old and slow I'm going to wait for the new battery to arrive before uploading them.

I was really hoping the MPAA's case would've been thrown out of court by now (a certain percentage of MegaUpload infringes copyright. I know what, we'll close the entire site down. Gee thanks!). I was reluctant to as MegaUpload kept files on their servers long after their Terms and Conditions said they would but I've waited long enough.

Give me until early next week (i.e - when the battery arrives) and I'll get all the broken links re-uploaded. Apologises about the delay.

Due to LG no longer releasing firmware upgrades for the BH200 I see little point in updating it with new information but remain commited to making sure existing links work. Please PM if any link ever expires (obviously after I've re-uploaded them).

I just bought one thru BB's Private auction site and awaiting delivery. Do not know if it is a return or demo. Is the Ethernet update still viable or will I need to request the files?

Thanks,

Good question. It's been so long now. I'd be interested to hear myself.

I'm still very happy with my BH200 purchase some 3-4 years on.

I've only had one "problem disc" (Elizabeth: The Golden Age UK HD-DVD, it refused to play but could've just as easily been a faulty disc), otherwise it's been solid with UK and USA DVDs plus UK and USA Blu-rays (covering Regions A and Region B).

Looks like Ethernet updates still work. Unit updated to the 330A firmware. Says that the 401A is available for update. From what I read here it is the 330A firmware so should not update again. Sampled one HD-DVD and one BR. I was able to select DTS-HD for the HP movie. Have not tried a DVD yet. Moved unit to guest room and will be used sparingly. Will any thumb drive work and what format for BD-Live?

I'm not even sure what FW mine has, but I haven't updated it in awhile.
Downloading the 4/10 file now.

I have only had 1 or 2 netflix movies that didn't work, and I have used a LOT of them, including new releases that work without a hitch.
I haven't used the HD DVD in at least a year or so(maybe 2 years- I dunno), but I do remember that the last time I updated the fw, it hosed the HD DVD portion, the disc player was making growling noises while playing HDDVDS, so I downgraded back to the earlier version and it worked fine again....so my FW must be at least 2 generations old.

This player still works fine, and I have no intention of upgrading any time soon.

Edit: I just did a search in this thread, the last time I discussed FW was like 8/09, when I made reference to the grinding noises the newest FW(at THAT time) caused my player, so my FW is probably the 402 fw, I think the fw that caused the grinding was the 620 fw - now remember, that was in 09, so the 4/10 fw is obviously almost a year newer than the fw that caused my player to make grinding noises....

Edit2- I just went back to the FW watch thread, and it seems I am most likely using 402 from 2008!
I cannot use the 1397139 trick to see what FW I actually have loaded, as it doesn't seem to work, and I tried it like 10 times.

Not 100% sure I'm going to update it, it seems to work fine the way it is.

Why waste $ on more cheap stuff, it's like challenging a dragon with a pocket knife.

Thanks. That function was never supported outside of The USA and Canada so it's tricky for me to check. It doesn't even show up unless you've got it set to Region A!

The name of the firmware inside the file itself is BH02100330A, so we know that is what it actually is.

Why LG are reporting it as BH02100401A on their website and via BH200 download who knows and especially trying to get you to install firmware you've already got (just labelled differently). I doubt it'll do any harm installing it though, if you want it to report "no upgrades found" or whatever it says.

Basically if you have BH02100330A or BH02100401A, you've got the latest firmware.

It's just worked for me now. That's a shame as it shows Firmware version, Driver version (labelled as Loader), DVD Region and BD Region set.

You've got it highlighted on 16:9 right? You should just need to press 1397139 one after the other and then Enter. If you're unsure, you could just flash to the latest firmware and drive to be sure. I'll be re-uploading the missing files later today.

All MegaUpload links replaced with Microsoft SkyDrive links, tested and working again.

I cannot get them to download oddly using IE9 but I think it's something wrong with my PC configuration. They download fine using Firefox.

I was going to use Media Fire but as you can now link to files using SkyDrive I figured I'll use my own account. I've got plenty of space and there's no chance they'll suddenly be deleted.

I no longer have the Beta March 2008 firmware, so that link is still dead. It's functionality identical to the April 2008 firmware anyway and is therefore redundant.

Enjoy!

Home button> setup>Aspect Ratio>16:9 Wide>1397139>enter?

If so, that doesn't do anything for me.

Thanks

I hate to dredge up a dormant thread, but maybe there are still some flickering lights out there...

My BH200 is suffering from consistent lock-up: power it up, and once in a while it boots up normally, but usually doesn't. Of course, it worked fine the first time it had been used in a while to boot-up and open the tray to load a DVD, but then froze (well, stayed forever at "please wait"). I eventually got it to boot up normally using the unplug...press&hold power sw..plug back in trick, but it only worked twice in about 30 attempts. (Got the disk out, though.)

Anything I can do to reset the beasty, or is it just plain old dying?

Meanwhile, my Oppo 70 DVD player that is a year older is doing just fine, thankyouverymuch. Maybe because it gets used more?

Still, LG isn't winning any reliability wards recently, AFAICT, so I will continue to steer clear of the brand.

My opinions are my own, and do not necessarily reflect those of my captors.

Only suggestion, make sure you have the latest firmware. It's a finicky gadget because it's a computer and DVD player rolled into one. That's my nonexpert advice anyway.

Just picked up a second one from eBay. It had the original CAN FW. Used a thumb drive to update to latest and then used network update to update to latest driver. All three formats worked. Now if I can get the seller to send me the correct AC cord, I'll have two of these babies working. I have red HDMI cables for my HD DVD players and blue for my BR and PS3. Guess I will need to get purple for these two. biggrin.gif
