Für alle Deutsch sprechenden BH200-Besitzer sei auf das Deutsche Hifi-Forum verwiesen, in welchem folgender Mini-FAQ-Beitrag besteht, hier.

For information on the 0702 Driver, Blu-ray Region Hack, SD DVD Multiregion Hack and PAL Support see below!

The following information is detailed in this thread:

* Where to find the latest
Firmware (March 2010), which amongst other things gives the LG BH200: BD-Live, DTS-HD HR/MA & TrueHD 7.1 support - New!
* A download link for the latest Driver (0702), for those unable to download it via the Ethernet connection.
* How to switch between Blu-ray Regions A, B or C
* PAL Support for the LG BH200 (and BH100) from The Americas.
* How to make the LG BH200 SD DVD Multiregion.
* How to display System, ATAPI and HDMI EDID Logs
* A link to another forum thread detailing the Discs the LG BH200 has problems with.
*
A link to another forum thread detailing the Bugs the LG BH200 has.
* Information relating to the LG BH200 in The UK.
* Miscellaneous FAQ Questions.
* The now redundant Beta March
2008 Firmware, this is superseded by the April 2008, June 2008, December 2008, March 2009, June 2009 and March 2010 firmware but can still be found in the second post below.

* Firmware & Driver Information:

* The 0702 driver can be found further down!
*
For information on how to check what your existing firmware is, see the section Miscellaneous - Firmware below.

* Where do I find the latest Firmware BH02100330A (2010-03-30)?

This is incorrectly labelled as firmware BH02100401A (2010-04-01) on the LG Service Sites (see below). It is in fact the same file.

To download it, click here: http://sdrv.ms/LG_BH200_Firmware_BH02100330A

Then:

1. Once downloaded uncompress LG BH200 Firmware Upgrade BH02100330A (30-03-10).zip
3. Follow the instructions in Instructions.doc and Update Guide for BH200.pdf

If you prefer, you can download this firmware from the USA or Canadian LG Service sites. The file you are after is called: LG_BH_LV221BH_100330A_Apr[1].30.2010.zip.

IMPORTANT: Before transferring the LG_BH_LV221BH.ROM file to a CD/DVD/USB Stick make sure it's size is: 38,935,487 bytes.

Change log:

BD-Live/Profile 2.0 support
Various Disney Blu-ray Discs now work

* The Blu-ray Multi-region, SD-DVD Region Free and All other Hacks still work, see here.

The March 2010 Firmware also includes the following upgrades from the April 2008 (BH02080402F - 2008-04-02) firmware too:

1. Bonus View (BD Profile 1.1) Update
2. High Resolution Audio Support Update:
* DTS-HD 7.1Ch output via pass through
* Dolby Digital Plus 7.1Ch output via pass through
* Dolby TrueHD 7.1Ch decode & PCM output via HDMI
3. User selectable Film Mode (1080p 24Hz) has been enabled
4. Firmware update via Network has been enabled

* The SD DVD Green Line and Studio Canal HD-DVD issues are now also fixed, see here.
* Dolby TrueHD over SPDIF (Optical) can still also be outputted as Multi-Channel legacy DTS, see here.

* Where do I find the latest 0702 Driver?

1. You can upgrade the Driver by connecting the LG BH200 to an Ethernet connection, then: SETUP, OTHERS, NETWORK UPDATE.
2. If you are having trouble doing this, it can also be downloaded here:

http://sdrv.ms/LG_BH200_Driver_0702

Download filename: LG BH200 Driver Upgrade 0702 (2008-03-21).zip
Contents: Instructions.doc, Fixes.txt, JBL2.zip

* This will also work on European models.
* Driver 0702 fixes issues with Saw IV, Hitman and Enchanted Blu-rays.
* When you put the CD/DVD/USB Stick in the LG BH200 it should be recognised automatically and start processing.
* Driver 0702 upgrades the driver in the physical disc drive itself (where you put the disc), it has no control over any other aspect of the LG BH200.

IMPORTANT: Before transferring the JBL2.ROM file to a CD/DVD/USB Stick make sure it's size is: 1,257,962 bytes. Please also make sure you read Instructions.doc before applying the upgrade. To see a screen shot of the JBL2.ROM file Properties window click here.

* Blu-ray Switch, PAL Support & SD DVD Multiregion Information:

* Is it possible to switch between Blu-ray Regions A, B or C?

Yes . A big thanks to members PeterjCat, Krobar, Dring, AlfaGT & Robertpierre for finding & working out how to switch between BD Regions A, B or C.

Default strings:

USA: 55 53 00 00 00 05 00 40
Canada: 43 41 00 01 00 05 00 40

* All codes also enable PAL, see below if your TV doesn't support PAL!
*
It is not currently possible to Enable Blu-ray Region Free or a Combination of Region A, B and C.

Do NOT change any of the other values, it is not known what they affect!

Instructions:

1. Open the tray, with no disc in the tray
2. Press PAUSE, 1, 4, 7, 2
3. Change the fourth HEX value (the bold value in the defaults above) to: Region A - 80, Region B - 92, Region C - A6 - Does your TV support PAL? See Below!
4. Press PAUSE to save & close the EEPROM Menu
5. Turn the BH200 Off - Normal power button

If your TV doesn't support PAL, use these alternate codes (if you're unsure, use these codes!): Region A - 00, Region B - 20, Region C - 26

NOTE: The Region B and Region C codes will also disable/hide the "Network Update" option, switching to Region A will enable/show it again.
You will notice the code to switch the BH200 to Region A is the same code that enables PAL below.

For further information please look here.
Forum member Dring has also written a useful post on the subject here too.

* Can a LG BH200 from The Americas be configured to support PAL?

Yes . This is good news for USA, Canadian BH200 models and other sold countries in The Americas where PAL is disabled by default. Countries outside of The Americas are likely to have PAL enabled anyway. A big thanks to members camds, nashou66, csundbom, iyoung for finding & working out how to use the LG BH100 EEPROM menu and member peterjcat for confirming it also works on the USA LG BH200.

On LG BH200 Players from other countries, the address/string may differ but the value we're interested in is the fourth set of digits (00 or 01).

Default strings:

USA: 55 53 00 00 00 05 00 40
Canada: 43 41 00 01 00 05 00 40

* Firstly confirm you're running the January 2008 or newer firmware. The PAL Hack does not work with the November 2007 firmware.
* Secondly confirm your TV supports PAL. If it doesn't go no further! - The LG BH200 cannot convert PAL to NTSC (or NTSC to PAL)

* Do NOT change any of the other values, it is not known what they affect!

* The value 80 (shown below) will also change the LG BG200 to Blu-ray Region A - This is the region code for The Americas (so they'll be Region A anyway) but may effect other countries that also need PAL enabling.

Instructions:

1. Open the tray, with no disc in the tray
2. Press PAUSE, 1, 4, 7, 2
3. Change the fourth HEX value to 80. So for USA Models: 55 53 00 80 00 05 00 40 and Canadian Models: 43 41 00 80 00 05 00 40
4. Press PAUSE to save & close the EEPROM Menu

5. Turn the BH200 Off - Normal power button

* Can the LG BH200 be made SD DVD Multi-region?

Yes . Firstly a big thanks to forum member Julio Cohen for creating the SD DVD MR Hack.

* The hack enables the LG BH200 to be SD DVD Multiregion, it does not enable PAL support. See above on how to enable PAL, if required.
* The hack is not RCE compatible (see here) but if you have an RCE disc just set it to Region 1 etc... watch the film then set it back again.
* The hack works on North American and European models, see here.

To download it, click here: http://sdrv.ms/LG_BH200_SD_DVD_Multiregion

Download filename: LG BH200 USA SD DVD MR Hack.zip
Contents: Instructions.txt, codefree LG BH200.zip, Region Management Test Mode - Picture.jpg

Instructions:

1. Open LG BH200 USA SD DVD MR Hack.zip
2. Unzip the file codefree LG BH200.zip, making sure to include subfolders (i.e - RMTM0000\\Scarlet\\kpjc19_1.dvd)
3. Burn a Standard CD-R/CD-RW making sure the root folder is RMTM0000, so it reads:

RMTM0000\\Scarlet\\kpjc19_1.dvd
And kpjc19_1.dvd is not in the root of the CD-R/CD-RW

4. Insert the Disc into the LG BH200
5. The "Region Management Test Mode" menu will appear.
6. Choose 0 (zero) for Region Free, 1 for Region 1 and so on.
7. Press PAUSE to save and exit.
8. Try an SD DVD not from the Players default region.

IMPORTANT: Before transferring the kpjc19_1.dvd file to a CD-R/CD-RW make sure it's size is: 5,242,884 bytes. Please also make sure you read Instructions.txt before applying the hack (not included in the alternate download link).

If you're still having problems getting the hack to work, make sure you have burnt the CD-R/CD-RW correctly, by reading these further instructions here.

If you wish to discuss the LG BH200 SD MR Hack further please do so in the original thread, here.

* Miscellaneous - Firmware:

* How do I check what my current firmware is, if the firmware installed correctly and what my SD DVD/Blu-ray Region Code is?

1. Setup
2. TV Aspect
3. 16:9
4. Press 1, 3, 9, 7, 1, 3, 9

Then:

1. Enter BH200 into the Search field on the front page.
2. Click on Drivers & Software.
3. You will be presented with a list of BH200 firmware downloads (check them all, they're not always listed newest to oldest).

If you need the April 2008 (BH02080402F - 2008-04-02) firmware, see here. If you need other firmware, see here. Thanks to billbillw for providing this.

* What are the names and descriptions of each LG BH200 Firmware?

All firmware downloads should be available from the various LG Service Sites listed above.

9. March 2010:

Firmware name: BH02100330A
Firmware date: 2010-03-30
Size on LG Service Site: 38,035K
Size in Bytes: 38,935,487 bytes

This is incorrectly labelled as firmware BH02100401A (2010-04-01) on the LG Service Sites (see links above). It is in fact the same file.

8. June 2009:

Firmware name: BH02090630A

Size on LG Service Site: 38,014K
Size in Bytes: 38,914,505 bytes

7. March 2009:

Firmware date: 2009-03-04
Size on LG Service Site: n/a
Size in Bytes: 38,866,021 bytes

6. December 2008:

5. June 2008:

Size in Bytes: 38,952,338 bytes

3. March 2008 (Beta):

Firmware name: BH02080314B
Firmware date: 2008-03-14
Size on LG Service Site: n/a
Size in Bytes: 38,955,543 bytes

2. January 2008:

Firmware name: BH02080124R
Firmware date: 2008-01-24
Size on LG Service Site: 33,744K
Size in Bytes: 34,543,200 bytes

1b. November 2007 (Initial release) - USA/Canada only:

Firmware name: BH02071119P (On Website: 1119p)
Firmware date: 2007-11-19
Size on LG Service Site: 39,378K
Size in Bytes: 40,316,518 bytes

1a. November 2007 (Initial release) - Country specific unknown:

Firmware name: BH02071119F (On Website: 1119f)
Firmware date: 2007-11-19
Size on LG Service Site: 39,378K
Size in Bytes: 40,316,655 bytes
Firmware filename:LG_BH_LV221BH.ROM_1119f_AsCKRs_production

Due to the strange filename of this firmware download, it is not recommended you install it. It is unknown why LG released two November 2007 firmware downloads, both have different change logs.

* Do I need to install any older Firmware first?

No. Newer firmware includes all bug fixes and improvements added in older firmware, when you install new firmware you completely overwrite the existing one.

* Should I install the Firmware or Driver first?

The order isn't important. You can install them at the same time too.

* Can the Ethernet port upgrade both the Firmware and Driver?

Yes, depending on the firmware currently installed:

* Pre-March 2008 (i.e - November 2007/January 2008) Firmware: Driver Upgrades only
* March 2008 and Newer Firmware: Driver and Firmware Upgrades

* Miscellaneous - General:

* Where can I find information about discs the LG BH200 has problems with?

See here (old/archived thread) and here (new/current thread).

* Where can I find information about bugs the LG BH200 has?

See here.

* Since upgrading to the June 2008 Firmware (or newer) I am unable to play BD-R or BD-RE discs?

See here.

* How do I display the System, ATAPI and HDMI EDID Logs?

Thanks to forum member Krobar for discovering this hack and Dring for confirming it works.

Instructions:

1. Make sure no disc is in the tray
2. Press PAUSE, 2, 4, 8, 6, 5

To exit the menu press the RETURN button. You can then select System Log, ATAPI Log or HDMI EDID. Followed by paging through the logs using the up and down direction keys on the remote.

You can read more information about this hack here.

* I cannot see a "Network Update" option under SETUP then OTHERS?

There are two reasons for this:

1. You're running the November 2007 firmware, please upgrade the firmware.
2. Please change your LG BH200 to a Blu-ray Region A code, check for Updates then put it back to the original code.

You can see how to alter this under the section "Is it possible to switch between Blu-ray Regions A, B or C?" above. Network Update is disabled on LG BH200's set to Region B or C (Europe/Australasia/South Asia).

* Where can I find information relating to the LG BH200 in The UK?

Nope, please read osofast35801's post.

Personally I don't think it matters when the BH200 will decode TrueHD 5.1 to 7.1 and send it out as Full Lossless PCM anyway.

8. Dolby TrueHD 7.1ch outputted over SPDIF (Optical/Coaxial) as 2 Channel

I think Osofast said that eventually the 200 would decode Dolby True HD (7.1) and send it to the receiver via it's PCM output. I don't recall any SPDIF promises.

Neither do I , but I thought I'd mention it anyway to list the problems that are still to be fixed.

I guess eventually we'll just have to upgrade our Amps, that is my hunch anyway.

LGdoubter said this in the owners thread:

This update has everything Osofast promised - In the Pass Through mode - Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio are being confirmed by my Denon 3808. No drop outs noticed either. I used I am Legend and ID4 for testing.

was he wrong? i don't understand.

Interesting. I guess the LG Engineers changed their mind after osofast35801's post.

That looks pretty conclusive to me. Can anyone else confirm this? If so I'll update the first post.

I'm confused, as osofast's post does say that it will do bitstreaming of TrueHD... I thought '3rd gen' meant the third manufacturing incarnation of the bh200?

I would check myself, but my player won't be set up until next Friday

I don't see anything but a green pic when I play back the 300 HD DVD. I saw the Warner logo, then the discchecked for online content (no ethernet cable inserted) and after this, nothing but a green picture. Sound is ok but no movie!

The new firmware is installed and I did not try this disc with the old firmware before so I can't tell if it's related to the new firmware.

Video and audio dropouts are still there. Ok, not really seeing any video but the green picture changed color while the audio dropout occurred.

I can hear the sound but I don't see anything but a green picture.

No it says 3rd Gen. will do TrueHD Bitstream . The wording is different for TrueHD than DTS-HD/DD+

Now what does 3rd Gen. mean? I originally thought it meant the same as you but then Samsungmaster (who works for LG) said this:

Yes, Osofast is referring to the BH300.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...&postcount=899

But as LGdoubter has since said the above I think it's a moot point.

Osofast did not say it would bitstream TrueHD.

This 'mysterious' bh300 is likely the model that was announced at CES this year, which is essentially the BH200 with a larger hard drive to download movies via the internet from Netflix. I'm sure they'll make both 2.0.

Now what does 3rd Gen. mean? I originally thought it meant the same as you but then Samsungmaster (who works for LG) said this:

Yes, Osofast is referring to the BH300.

This is what confuses me... Why would osofast comment on an as of yet unreleased and practically unannounced player? They'd have his job for that, wouldn't they? Practically speaking, it might be obvious what the basic audio specs for the next generation would be, but that's not really the point. It seems illogical.

Ironically, I just watched 300 HD the other night with no issues except all that we have had before the FW update. I just went and put it in again and it was real loud static but the picture was fine. I went in and changed the audio to Dolby HD and it was fine after that and the amp confirmed it as HD.

Thanks Elube.

It maybe an idea to try 300 again StardustOne.

The American 300 HD-DVD is a Combo whereas the European one is not but I'd be very surprised if the High Def. side wasn't identical in all countries.

Does anyone have any issues with HDMI PCM Multi-channel output. On my Denon 4806 it always plays as 2 channel. I cannot get any PCM Blu-ray audio to play as anything but 2 channel. I don't see that issue from my PS3. I read in the manual that if the EDID is not correctly detected 2 channel audio is output. The manual also states that LPCM is sent out when pass-through is selected but that also plays as 2 channel. What settings are people using to get Multi-channel PCM output?

Thanks.

Maurice

I only use the pass thru and everything is being decoded and acknowledged correctly by my amp.

Still new at this BD thing, but that happened to me on Spidey 3 with very old F/W. Nothing I did produced MC LPCM. I just installed the new F/W so I'll be checking this again shortly. I am piping audio to a Yamaha RX-V3800 via HDMI.

The new F/W is exceptional with both lossless codecs BTW, raw and decoded.

I'm happy to report that after updating the firmware, my BH200 now outputs TrueHD 5.1 via HDMI passthrough to my VSX94 receiver on Resident Evil Extinction.
I initially had an issue with video. Great sound but no video at all. However I power cycled everything and all is well.

Do you mean TrueHD still can't be re-encoded to DTS or DD over SPDIF?

Sweet, thanks.

I'll remove that from the first post now users are reporting TrueHD does Bitstream after all.

No I'm afraid not. I believe all you'll get is 2 Channel over SPDIF still.

I'm afraid it was never promised, not for this firmware upgrade anyway. I'm as disappointed as you. In the short term I also need it. Later this year I'll be getting a new HDMI Amp but in the short term I'll be relying on Lossy 5.1 over SPDIF.

That said I don't think any user on here has actually tested it to say for sure, if someone could please?

I've tried the Matrix and 300 HD DVDs in TrueHD over SPDIF, and they do indeed get downmixed to DTS 5.1!

Really? That's excellent thanks. Can you please confirm:

1. Is it definitely 5.1 not 2.0?
2. Is it definitely Full DTS? And not some type of fake DTS from a Stereo source that "appears" to be Surround Sound (such as DTS Neo 6).

What audio option did you select in the LG menus in order to get DTS 5.1 from TrueHD over SPDIF? I presume Primary Pass-Thru?

1. It's definitely DTS 5.1. All 5 speaker lights are on on my Denon 3805. It used to be 2.0 before the firmware update.
2. I can't confirm how the player constructs the DTS signal, but as I said above, it's a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 source output as a DTS 5.1 stream.

In the LG menus, it's Audio -> SPDIF -> DTS Re-Encode.

Fantastic. Thanks Dickydoo.

I'll update the first post. We just need to hear if Sunshine works properly and/or users can access it's Picture-in-Picture/Bonus View/Profile 1.1 features.

If this played region locked discs I believe that would be a 1st and would make this player more desirable then almost any player on the market.

Be careful with all the enthusiasm, otherwise the ebay prices skyrocket and if I decide on buying a 2nd one I would have to pay a fortune for it

Besides, my Denon AVR-4308 shows Dolby HD + PLIIx in the display when I play back my Happy Feet HD DVD combo Dolby True HD track. So it does indeed play back True HD 5.1 or even better. Thanks LG.
